My son left Aug 7th from Portland Maine, we got the phone call (at midnight)stating he was there and would call again in 3 wks . Even though this has been a goal of his for a long time, I"m still having a tough time letting go.I started journaling months ago and will enjoy sharing bits and pieces from my journal in letters to him. He is a wonderful son and I know he will do great things for the Navy. I am looking forward to graduation at Great Lakes , haven't recieved any of that info yet.…

I met my boyfriend in the first grade when we were wee little kids. We were the best of friends always side by side no matter what and had each other's back. He pushed me on the swings and we played on the see saw together, ate lunch together. I must admit he was my first crush ever. I remember playing hopscotch with him during recess and asked him to be my best friend forever and without a thought he immediately said yes! As years went by, we grew up went to school together got seperated…

My son left Aug 7th from Nashville going to Great Lakes. He was so excited. I am so proud of him but killing me inside not being able to talk to him every night like I did when he was away at college. He called me at mid night and said he got there and he was ok. He sounded so tired.
Is there anyone else out there who's son left Aug 7th? It is going to be 8 long weeks.

We got our first letter last Thursday, he left July 17th... Cried from word one. But I will say, and maybe it was just him, but the first and last paragraph, while beautiful, were definately not his words. The middle part of the letter was 100% him and made us laugh and cry at the same time. Regardless, was beyond thrilled to get it and can't wait for a phonecall!!! September 14th can't get here fast enough!!!
Being apart of the Cardinal Company has it's perks....We took Chas to St. Louis on Monday but he got to keep his phone until he arrives at GL on Thursday and I was able to visit him last night.
Monday night, Chas was very somber...He said his stomach hurt...didn't really eat and as Mom,…

My son just left 8/2 for bootcamp. It was so hard and has been a rough week. I got the box last night with his belongings. Was very hard and so real.
Looking to talk to other moms.

I have been reading the blogs, the discussions, everything I can to gain as much knowledge as I can to ensure my son is "well cared for" by mommy, even while in bootcamp! haha! Anyway, from day one, all the recruiter ever told me was "Nothing but the clothes on his back, then just plain 2 or 3 page letters until PIR". OK, now Im reading through the posts on this site, and I see moms who send their kids envelopes and stamps! OH NO!! I thought that was taken care of for him, so I put together…

None of these are created by me. This is the result of a Google search and copy paste. Many of them came from N4M. There are lots of duplicates as well. But this is the springboard that I am using to create 15 question letters to send to my SR. Sending a couple per week so that they hopefully last through till PIR. Looks like I have to put them into 2 posts.
While these are not the warm loving personal letters that we hope to receive from our sailor, they are novel and fun (if…

My son entered basic training on Aug 24, 2012 (ship 14 Div 300) and this has been most exciting for him and me. I'm reflecting on my basic training experience in the Air Force in 1971 and smiling everytime I think of my son being in basic training. He's going to be a good seaman and this explerience will be one of his fond memories later in life. I look forward to seeing him graduate in September.

My Son Damien left yesterday, It was/is the hardest thing I ever had to experience. He swore in today in Portland Oregon and is shipping from there to Great Lakes I am so Very proud of him. Does anybody know if there is a way to get a copy of his swearing in ceremony that happened today? I unfortunately was unable to go to it because it was 300 miles away?
