I can't tell you all enough how many times you have "talked me off the ledge". I know NOTHING about Navy life (my husband's family all retired Air Force) and have no clue what to expect, Although my father served in the Navy, it was during WWII and things are different than they were 70 years ago. I know my inner "mother lion" has reared her head a few times wanting to go charging to Great Lakes to protect my cub, but it's time to let go and let him grow to be the man he needs to be. I…

Got a letter from my son last week, and was totally freaking out! He sounded so down. This is the first time he has ever been away from me for this long, and we are very close. I wrote him the "mom motivational speech" letter (my older son swears this is the greatest thing ever.) Got another letter Wednesday and he sounded "a little better" but he failed his PT. Wishes he would have listened to his dad and I when we kept "harping" about working out to get ready. How many times does he…

The letter finally arrived today! My heart is so happy! It is the form letter, but I was thrilled to find a personal letter written by my son on the back. My SR says all is well and he's still very happy with his decision to join. He says the RDC's are tough on them, but they need it (his words). He thinks the galley food is "pretty good." He seems happy, so that makes me beyond happy! I hope other moms received a note from their SR too. It definitely relieves some of they worry.
As I am writing this I cant stop crying. Received a call tonight from my SR. He sounded so defeated and broken. He was set to graduate next week but has to wait till the following week because he made a mistake and this is the consequence. I am notfor me but for him. He has been doing an excellent job and working really hard. I know he feels he let himself, division and us down which he did not, I wrote him a letter tonight to let him know we are really proud o him and that this is…

A little over a month ago, I began the process of joining the Navy! 1) To be closer to my SR and 2) to take hold of their great educational benefits... Well, this morning I found out that I had been rejected due to my thoracic scoliosis and although I was sad earlier and I'm wrapping my mind around the fact that this wasn't my journey to take... I've been positive for the most part. I keep telling myself that the likelihood of me being closer to my SR was VERY slim especially since he'll be…

I got my first letter today I was so happy to get it! It's hard to read though, he sounds so tired. He said he doesn't feel like they get any sleep and he is next to the bathroom so the light is on all night long making it harder to sleep.
He didn't even mention the exercise, only that he couldn't get comfortable and the lack of sleep.
Anyone else's recruit going through this?
