Last Full Day

My son heads to MEPS tomorrow afternoon. I need all the prayers in the world right now. Today we are hosting a cookout for his close friends and family. Tomorrow he leaves. On Monday we watch him take his oath before shipping out. Shortly after we do that I also will be flying out to attend my fathers (his only grandfather alive) funeral. He passed away on Wednesday afternoon after a four week battle after suffering a stroke. Can't be sad for my son since he will not be able to say goodbye…

Cell phone plans

I was wondering if there is a cell phone carrier that is better than another as far as service goes.   My son leaves 11/7 for BC. I know he would like to get his own plan after boot camp. Is there one better than another in case over seas after a school?  Should I have the same carrier as well?  Is it better for him to get his own plan now and have it put on a military hold during BC?

Is Recruit Training Command required in the address?

Is it required to include Recruit Training Command on the letters to the recruits? I didn’t put it on envelope when I returned the form letter to my recruit. Now I’m worried that he will not receive it.

Leaving for the fleet

My son graduated from boot camp about three weeks ago. He is in A school training in Chicago now and will be leaving in a couple weeks. He then has about ten days leave, then goes to San Diego. We are unsure of the details of how he gets to San Diego. Do we book him a flight from home to San Diego ourselves or is this does through the navy somehow?

UBER gouging military at Great Lakes

My boot camp graduate used his Dad's UBER account twice recently when other transportation wasn't available.  Both times, he was charged a premium rate.  Premium rates are supposed to be limited to times when there is high demand, which was not the case. This seems unethical and unfair to young men and women on limited incomes.

Not able to meet minimum physical fitness test

I just received a call from my son saying that he will be coming home from basic training because he did not meet the minimum physical and will be in separation for the next 10 to 20 days.  I guess he will be able to try and re-enlist in 6 months.  Has this happened to anyone?  Thank you!!

PIR date pushback

Just got a call from my SR saying he got set back 3 weeks. Does this mean his graduation is moved 3 weeks back or is he not graduating?

Form letter response

Hi Ladies,

I so appreciate all your help in navigating this new chapter in our family's life.

So I've received the phone call saying "I am here and okay" and we got the box last Friday with a form in it explaining his address, ship number and PIR date. The one issues is that he didn't put any names down on the page to list invited guests. I filled it out but it says he needs to sign it.

Any idea what I should do?

Also, is there ever a chance to get more tickets?…

In Limbo

So looks like I am going to have to go through this all over again, my baby is coming back home tonight. I made him wear long sleeves and jeans to help his dad in the yard to prevent bug bites, cuts and/or sunburn before going to MEPS. You guessed it he got a slight heat rash and they would not pass him in medical without a consult. They told him to take a seat until they could get him scheduled with a doctor. They forgot him and he sat there waiting from 8 til 3. By the time they realized…

My Last Night With My Hot Rod....

I am sitting here listening to the thunder roll and trying so come to grips with this chapter of life coming to an end. Our phone has rang off the hook the last couple of days and his Aunt that lives near us came over to get her hug. My side of the family is at least 5 1/2 hour drive away thus the phone calls. His big brother called from Wisconsin and they were on the phone for about an hour (of course he had to talk to his nieces too)  He wanted chinese food for his last day at home, so…

5 more wake ups.......

Just 5 more wake ups, just 5 more sleepy " I'm up Momma." and just 5 more wake ups and my next will be empty. He is so bored and antsy pantsy right now, he is cramming in all the face time and game time he can with his buddies. My Dad is 85 and is terminally ill with cancer and I know in my heart that my son has seen his Paw for the last time and I get all choked up when I talk to daddy on the phone right now as he is very close to both my boys.   My sister calls me about three times a day…
