Bank account

Can my son keep his already established bank account for his direct deposit and use? It is a local credit union. Or should he get a credit union or bank like naval federal credit union.

Emotional

It's been a week and 2 days since he left... I thought it was going to be easier as the days go by, but here I am, still as emotional as ever. I see his stuff all over the house... Projects he started and never finished, shoes, his HS swim medals that's all over the house, school papers strewn about.

When he called on the night of his arrival at GL, I thought that would make it better for me, to know that he's alright, to know that the Navy will be taking care of him, I WAS WRONG!!! I'm… Continue

Phone Calls

For all you moms that are writing about not getting the phone call...I feel for you!  I remember waiting by the phone and jumping the minute it said Illinois on it!  I did receive his first actual call 2 weeks after he got there.  Unfortunately it was 6am and I was showering for work. He called twice and I missed both!! I was so upset and mad at myself.  His voicemail was awesome though!  He sounded sad at first but kept reassuring me that he was doing good.  His voicemail said the next call…

Never got the phone call

While I am not worried that I did not get the call as I had the pleasure of speaking to her at 1700 and also seeing her swear in. I know that the Navy is taking care of her and that she is safe. I am hoping she will get some sleep tonight, since I know the real "fun" will begin for her tomorrow. I am writing letters daily (a couple times today). Looking forward to being able to send to her.

I just have to keep reassuring myself she is fine, many have gone before her and done the exact…

Awaiting my 30 second scripted "I am fine" call

As I sit here and reflect on the past few days with my daughter, I cannot help but feel emotional. I only cried a few tears after we said our goodbye's following the swearing in ceremony at MEPS. I was fortunate she could still text and talk when she arrived at O'Hare and was resting at the USO. She said she was scared, I reassured her so were all of the other recruits. What she was feeling was completely normal given her circumstance.

I am incredibly proud to be her mother. Even…

Saying goodbye is tough

I thought about our last few days together; what I did not imagine is how freely the tears would flow. The joke between us is, I cry tears of Joy-my name is Joy, so the irony is funny! Saying goodbye is necessary to saying hello again. I am so incredibly proud of her. My selfish side has come out in that I do not want her to ever go! She is ready, my heart is comforted knowing she will be kept safe. I am losing a piece of myself today and the Navy gains all of her.

I know the days…

Emotional Days

My daughter left for RTC this past Wednesday (8/26/2015) and I never realized it was possible to miss someone so very much in my life. I feel like a piece of my heart is missing and when I got the "I'm Here" call and she was crying, my heart broke into a million pieces. I am sure she wasn't the only SR in tears by the time they got to make that short phone call and I know I am not the only mom feeling the way I am feeling right now. I am trying to stay upbeat and positive about this whole…

Sending Packages

I know we can't send packages to the SR's, but when Marshall's box came home we found his retainers. I know they can keep them, just didn't know who he needs to let know that we are mailing them. Also since they are pulling his wisdom teeth I feel that he will need them even more to keep his teeth from shifting. I paid too much money for that simle, I can't do that again..

Information on graduation

Hello everyone. Hope everyone is well. I had a question. My husband is graduating from boot camp soon. My question is, is there a place for family member to watch the graduation that are not on the list to go in? We have extra family going to Chicago who want to watch the graduation.

4 weeks in

Today is the end of the 4 week mark in boot camp for my son. So far all seems well. I haven't received news otherwise. We have always lived here near Great Lakes, and he mentioned that it's weird being so close to home, yet so far away. I wish he wasn't such a man of few words! I obviously am counting down the days until I see him, as are all of the other parents out there. Are there any other families out there that live near Great Lakes as well? God bless to all of you who joined this…
