Hi, My son just went to BC Jan 25, 2010. He is 29 years old. He is married and has a 3 yr. old. He decided to go in to make a good living for his family. It seems wierd because even though I didn't see him all the time, I knew he was around and I could see him anytime I wanted. Now I know I won't see him until graduation and I hope he can handle the pressure even though he might be older than any other person who has joined with him. I guess he finally decided what he wanted to be when he grew… Continue

The humorous side.. What happens when the kid leaves -kitchen funnies, doggie duty and more

All of the stress of watching my 19 year old flee the proverbial nest is not without its humorous side. There certainly has been a fair amount of change to things in this household. I am sure that is true for all - particularly those of us who have found ourselves plunged into the empty nester's reality. And - I must say - that to be an empty nester at 40 - while watching so many of my friends chasing toddlers, changing diapers, potty training and all that great stuff - has left me somewhat lost… Continue

"Mom, it's a mannequin!"

I thought it would be a good idea to take my son, his liberty buddy, and my youngest son to the Naval museum in Pensacola yesterday after my son's graduation. "All this time in Pensacola and you haven't been here yet?" OK, so he had other priorities... Most of which I don't want to know about.

We went to the museum. It is great. It is wonderful to have your son take you and explain stuff. So we also went to the IMAX movie, which seemed like a good idea, also, "Fighter… Continue

Our Navy Journey - Anchors Aweigh

After reading so many letters blogs, and posts here - I thought that perhaps I'd start a blog about this crazy journey our family has now embarked on called the Navy. My only son, Chris left for RTC on January 11th. In many ways, I think his journey toward the Navy began many many moons ago. For the vast majority of his life t has been he and I - a dynamic duo. His dad and I split when he was three and his father has never maintained a consistent presence in his life. Fortunately, we have been… Continue

Clarification

I posted the Curious blog last week. I just want to clarify that my daughter was never UA. She was at work in Tennessee the whol month of November. I would like to know how orders could just disappear as they never arrived there to tell her she was even supposed to be somewhere else. It was quite a shock to us that she was listed when she was at work. These orders were misplaced, still missing, and she was never UA.

Just received a "Good Night" call. Won't hear from our son for awhile. That will be the hardest part, not being able to text him or send him a facebook message (to get a response). :o( You can bet I will be sending cards though. I did much better than I thought I would today when we took him to the airport. Of course there were tears but not out of control tears like I feared. I'm saying prayers for all the students of the class 13-10. Praying for focus and strength. Continue

Note from the Master Chief Petty Officer Of the Navy - Haiti, Operation Unified Response

Shipmates,

As you know we have deployed and mobilized many of our friends and co-workers to Haiti in support of Operation Unified Response to assist interagency and multinational efforts in assessing damage and relieving human suffering after the devastating earthquake and aftershocks.

Human suffering moves us to act, and the flexibility of U.S. maritime forces uniquely positions us to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster response. Supporting civil authorities with… Continue

The Ancient Mariner

January 22, 2010

My Darling's birthday is February 9th. He will be 34. The funny thing is that he is in Bootcamp. He enlisted back in May, so he was 33. I wonder how much older he looks than everyone else? He didn't look old at MEPS. I wonder if his age will make a difference. I don't think it will, he is in very good shape. I think. I just want him to know that I think it is amazing that he is doing this. He is making the country a little safer and the world a little better. I am sending… Continue

Curious

My daughter has a little over 10 years in the Navy. She came home on leave just before Thanksgiving for a family renunion. It was the first time she had been home in 8 years. I usually go to her. This time we planned for her to be here and then I was to fly back and spend 6 weeks with her.

She had been here no more than a few days when the information network let us know that a call had come in and they were reporting her UA. Not much we could do from out here. We flew back on… Continue

Haiti Relief Effort

It's exciting to know that three of the sailors who come to the house are involved with the Navy's mission to provide needed relief to the country.

One of them said: "We are in Hati, and many of us have been to the beach doing Humanitarian relief work. I got to go to...and did medical relief work for 3 days. It was the most exhausting, fulfilling and blessed situation I think that I have ever been in. The Haitian people are wonderful, and very thankful of all the care that we can… Continue

CALLING ALL NAVY MOMS!

CALLING ALL MOMS! Here is a chance to let ‘our’ sailors know how much we love and support them! If there is one thing every Navy mom learns during boot camp it is to write a great letter!

Will you please write a letter or thank you card to a Sailor who is conducting humanitarian and disaster relief operations? Our goal is to send over 5,000 thank you cards to Chaplain ‘Fish’ by February 10th! While Chaplain 'Fish" is on the USS… Continue

New to the site

I'm new to this site and I have found it very helpful. My husband is a recruit @ GL PIR 02/26. I'm from Norfolk, VA originally (Oceana) but after my father retired in '94 we settled in Georgia where I finished school and met a wonderful man I married. A year ago he came home from being laid off and he looked at me and said "I joined the Navy." I said "You did what?" I couldn't believe fate had brought me back to the place my life began. But here I am- and I am so proud. I look forward to this… Continue

Dinosaur Mom

Yes, she can be taught...at any age. I discovered google lets you TEXT from your desktop. Maybe this is not news to most, but it sure was a happy discovery for me. My son texts all the time. He doesn't email much. Now, at least I can communicate... oops, that means I have to keep the browser open to receive the text. Like I said, a little knowledge in hand is dangerous. If you are interested, check out google's site. Even I could understand it! Yes, I tested it out & it works.
