Hi Tammy AO Mom - my son participates in soccer, golf, softball, basketball, football (Yep you name it, he is doing it). I ended up shipping out his golf clubs a couple months ago and he is joining a club in Lemoore somewhere to keep his handicap (he was a 6 where we live). My son doesn't have a car yet although when he came home he mentioned about getting one, I would have to have one personally, but he has been borrowing one out there from a buddy he met. It is nice because he works with fellow sailors (or Airmen) and also civilians on the base so he is getting around. Have your son ask around when he gets there, it sounds like they really welcome the newbies!!!
Blackjacksbaby - I believe he is going to be staying at Lemoore for a while so that is good that he won't be too stressed out. Then i would worry about him. so far he says he loves it and he is doing really well out there!! Thanks for writing!! A mom always like to hear from others and hear your experiences. Good Luck!
towermom I was an Air Traffic Controller in the navy. I graduated from A School in 2008. I hope he enjoys it. It's a great job, although it can be high stress. Lemoore's feild is really easy going compaired to some of the other feilds. Lt. Polak is a great leader, he was my DivO when I was on a ship.
Hi Towermom, Yes it is hot out this way. And travel is the way to go. My son will be taking his car back to base with him. So he will be able to get around and figure things out. What kind of sports does your son play? My son is very athletic and loves to play ball. Are there sports on base for them? My son just let me know that his hard copies are now being delayed. He was not to happy about that. Thank you for welcoming me to this group.
Welcome Tammy ship 2 and Sheila Proud Mom - my son has been in Lemoore since February. He is AC. My parents actually just got home from seeing him which made me jealous!! He had a great weekend with them and yea they said there really isn't much out there and it was HOT!! they went to Monterey, Sequoias and some other site seeing places. My son has been traveling on the weekends to San Diego, Vegas, etc. He is involved in many sports out there too so he is keeping busy.
Tammy ship 2 - I am really jealous of you!! Wow only 90 miles away that is great!! I am hoping to get out their in November as I have quite a bit of vacation to use but my husband doesn't want me to go without him!! :) oh well will see
Glad you both are in this group!!
Thanks for the welcome. My son will have so much to do while in Lemoore. He will have his family 90miles away. Yes we live very close to his new base. It will be great to be able to have him home for the holidays. I feel kinda guilty though. So many of you all don't get to see much of your Sailors. I know his sisters and the gf are excited.
His first time was on the Nimitz. For the last and this one he is with the Stennis. I can be different....wherever they are sent.
I knew it was a quick turnaround. Brandon had gotten to Lemoore about a week before they returned from the last one. Does the squadron go out on different carriers or are they always on the Stennis?
This will be his 3rd. It was a short turnaround for them. Hope that this one goes fast.
He is going on the Stennis. It'll be his first deployment. How about yours?
I know we are pretty lucky - I don't take it for granted because I know that he could always be stationed somewhere far away next time. I'm actually looking forward to hopefully seeing him when they get down here. His birthday happens right around the time they will be leaving so we will do an early birthday for him.
Jenn, is your son going on the Stennis? Mine is with VFA 41 also.
Yes, it is HOT there. It's nice that you get to see him. We only get once a year, it that.
