KateFry - How far are Handord and Fresno?
Ok - another question - is there gang activity there? My son had heard rumors that Lemoore has a lot of gangs. True? Also - if there isn't a lot to do in town are there a lot of bars where guys can get in trouble when they leave base? My son is only 19 and not really a drinker but I know he'll make friends with different people. LOL - I know - typical mom worried about that stuff.
I have to say that I do think that each base has pros and cons. You could leave Lemoore for somewhere else and have a bunch of other stuff that you don't like. I think it will be a big adjustment for him but he really wanted to be stationed with a squadron over being stationed on a carrier - he'll just have to make the best of things. He is happy to be close to home and hopefully he'll make a bunch of good friends. I'm glad to get to know you all.
Thanks Valtameri & nicksmom!
LOL Valtameri - I have to admit I did get a little panicked when I heard that. Good to know there are buses. Guess we will have to look at a car soon.
nicksmom - I thought it would be about 5 hours or so to get home for him. I wasn't sure if the guys thought it would be worth the time to do the drive - good to know that your son does it often for the weekends. Another good reason to look into a car!
Hi Jenn(Proud AO Mom), my Sailor is also stationed in Lemoore and we live in south Orange County. He comes home quite often on the weekends unless he has duty. It is a 3 to 3 and a half hour drive for him, should be about a little over 4 for your son.
That last line makes it sound like he trudged miles to get to work -- no, no, there was a bus. Lots of walking otherwise; not too big a deal, as he was used to walking or running miles each day before he enlisted.
Hello new people! My son arrived at NAS Lemoore about 3 months ago, but he deployed almost immediately, so he didn't have time to share very much with me. He did say that the place smells, and the water in particular smelled so bad he hardly wanted to get in the shower, but I guess everyone knows (or has heard) about the sulfur odor. Oh yes, as everyone below has mentioned, the place is very spread out, so a vehicle is a good idea. He said that his room was miles from his work place.
Hi all - I just joined this group. My son will be leaving A school in Pensacola and be stationed in Lemoore in the next couple of weeks. We live in San Diego so I'm happy that he is so close but would love to hear some other experiences. Is there much to do there?
Hey Y'all. New to this Group. My son got to Lemoore 1-14, he's still getting his sea-leggs. Started C school last week. He's ATT with VFA-146. We too are many states away. But cell phones are a life saver. Any info that could help us here in Alabama or that could help our Sailor in CA, would be appreciated. Have a great day.
