OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

THE BUILDING OF LEMOORE NAS

In 1954, the Navy searched the Northern California-Nevada area for land to build a master jet air station - one with congestion free air space.

Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and the nearby accommodations. Construction started in 1958. With base housing, administration facilities and the flight training areas in operation, the air station was commissioned on July 8, 1961.

Located in the San Joaquin Valley approximately 40 miles south of Fresno, CA, nearly 5,000 military and 1,000 civilian employees work onboard, with an average payroll of $120 million per year.

NAS Lemoore's primary mission is to support fleet carrier squadrons. The heart of this mission is the operations area. Designed to support more than twenty fleet squadrons, it serves as a master training center for carrier-based strike fighter squadrons of the United States Pacific Fleet.

Comment by SouthCarolinaProud on September 21, 2013 at 11:18am: Hey Pam~Jared's mom...... We took our time getting out there and we stopped in Vegas too and she won't be 21 till Oct. lol. But we had time. A long drive for sure. Lol. Yes my daughter says it's boring in Lemoore lol. Tell him to volunteer at the Fresno State games. He will have a blast. They go to Fresno a lot it's only 30 mins. Oh yes she would have died without a car there. She has to drive 8 miles to get to her hangar for her squadron from the barracks. She is assigned to squadron VFA 122. Find out which one he is assigned to. She and her friends have been to Los Angles, Sequoia national park and kings Canyon. It's a very short drive there. And she went to San Francisco to visit her gf from her in SC who lives there now. Lemoore is in the middle of nowhere but there are plenty of things to do somewhere over there. Good luck to him. As the Ordies say. "IYAOYAS" !!!! Welcome to Lemoore!! Hooyah!

We stopped in Vegas over night. Too bad he was 8 days shy of being 21!! You're right, there's lots of agriculture. My son is also an AO. He was in a bit of culture shock when he saw Lemoore, as he from the Denver metro area where there is lots to do. It's a good think he brought his car. He knows one other person there and already has plans to hang out tonight with a few other new people that he met today. He found out that he is assigned to the USS Carl Vinson and will deploy next August. I'm the meantime it seems like he will be bouncing around between Fallon, Nevada, San Diego, and Lemoore. He saw the F-18s today and was pretty excited about that.

Me and her drove her car all te way from South Carolina. I flew back also. It took us 4 days. Best time with my daughter but a long trip. Lemoore is in the middle of the agricultural part of Cali. You will see field after field of something growing. The town of Lemoore is very small not much to do there. There are a couple of towns close by the base to go to a mall or Walmart. Lemoore doesn't have those. Good that he will have a car. They can take a 30 mile quick trip intl Fresno for that city life. My daughter a couple of weekends ago her and her roommate drove to Sequioa National Park to see those huge trees. They are about 3 hrs from LA and San Fransisco. The summer gets super hot 105 and above most of the time. It never rains. My daughter actually misses the rain. Lol. But she loves Cali. Her rate is AO. What is your sailors rate? She will be there for 2 yrs and then who knows. She is attached to practice squadron. She works with F-18 fighter jets. The base is nice. I like the town of Lemoore. But I'm not a city girl. Lol.
