Chelsealoo....I will keep you in my prayers that you can make it out there. That would be fantastic. I so, so want to go. If my work will let me have a few extra days we will do it, I only have Christmas day off. Well technically my shift will end at 7am Christmas, so we would have to fly out after that and I would have to be back home by midnight Christmas night for my next shift. I think that is too much pressure on my family to try and get us up there in that short amount of time since we too live about 1800 miles away. If only the Navy would just let us set the rules so we can have our families together...lol! Funny thing is I work at a jail facility and we have families call to see if we will be giving an inmate a birthday cake on their birthday or if we will cook them a special thanksgiving meal for the holidays. They even ask if we can let them go home for a day to celebrate Christmas. Of course we can't do that and I kinda laugh when they say that, but now I think I understand not having your loved one around....but at least ours are at boot camp and not jail right? :)
You are right Diannep. I read the notes regarding Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Sailor and it says the recruit can not be taken outside of 50 mile radius so being in a hotel within that radius is fine. Or at least that is what I understood from it.
Lala: I think that it just means that the people adopting have to be in that radius; i.e., they can be at a hotel. But not sure. Hoping someone can ask this on RTC FB and get the straight answer!
Good morning, everyone! Hope all have a good day!
You guys are bringing tears to my eyes this morning. I hope all who can make it to Great Lakes do find a way to get there. I guess last year I completely misunderstood the rules for the Christmas adopt a Sailor. I thought whoever adopted them had to live within a certain distance of Great Lakes but I guess I was wrong or they could have changed it, not sure. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers :-)
Ah! I know how you feel, I am searching everywhere for the cheapest option to see my SR. Its expensive! and I live about 1500 miles from RTC. Even considering flying there and taking the Greyhound back, ugh:( Anything to see him. I just want to spend Christmas with my husband! :)) It does almost feel like theyre not real, I wait and wait for a call or a letter that doesnt come. I promise there is a guy that loves me, somewhere in Great Lakes, :))
Navymom...I think more will join your discussion once they find out about it. You are so close to my sons, ship 12 div 032, you can just hang on and we can go through this all together!:)
Chelsealoo...I would love to go for the adopt a sailor for Christmas, but I am not able to get the extra time off work. I thought about doing a 24 hour turn around trip since I am off Christmas day, but I think it would be very hectic trying to get my husband, daughter and I up there and back that quickly. One of the things I am doing is making sure I am balancing everything out with my daughter. I feel like with our son leaving and having a hard time with it that things have been so much about him and I want to make sure she doesn't feel left out. So we decided to stay home for Christmas and just go for the graduation. I just wish my baby boy was home with us...I sure do miss him. I am beginning to feel as if he is not real anymore.
ok great Coomey21. Thanks for your help. I will keep checking to see what else I can find out since this wasn't around when I went to BC.
jaydawn1 - It was indicated that PIR 1/6 & 1/13 would be eligible for Christmas-Adopt-Sailor. That is the only information I have. I assume it must be similar to the Thanksgiving-Adopt-Sailor.
No, we made reservations at Homewood Suites. It will offer us a nice place to relax and enjoy our visit. We will stay there for the graduation as well.
