It is very sad that some of them don't have any family support. We all all know how important it is. The good thing is that they will have a new Navy family who will stick by them and offer them support not only from their fellow shipmates but from their families as well. When my boyfriend called, he mentioned about the kid who got taken out by the ambulence and sent to the hospital or something. I felt so bad, i even told him i would have a phone conversation with him, no one should have to go through that. I feel horrible that some SRs don't have daily mail or any mail at all.

I, too, have been taking family photos and printing them onto the paper onto which I've been writing my daughter. She said she loved them but made no mention of not being able to keep them. Maybe the different divisions treat it differently?

This was a BIG help...I went to the group on here that just now had PIR, and checked out their comments. It gives us a little heads up on some of the stuff that we are asking about, because they are a month ahead of us they've been here/ done this! LOL!

Sorry I was away all day, after subbing for HS art I took my stepdaughter to get her driver license today and she passed YAY, that means I no longer have to drive her to school each morning or pick her up in the afternoon. She and my son leave at 5 am tomorrow morning for the Senior Trip and will gone for a week to Washington DC and NY City. So exciting for them, so expensive for us lol. I guess we will have a little taste of what being empty nesters will be like for the next week. Wish me luck lol.

I have been copying a picture and putting it on each letter I send. I know at least two of them that he has read based on his letters back.  I have not sent any news articles or anything from FB though.  Maybe it is just the news clips that were the problem?

Son's GF said that they have to open their mail in front of someone, and any articles that are copy pasted such as news clips, and anything off the internet or from facebook is crumpled up and they can't see it. I put several pictures of his GF and his dog on a page and printed them, and his gf said they crumpled them up, and that they must be real photos. Anyone else hear this???

My heart is breaking for that SR:( My family will def have him in our prayers.  My son had also mentioned not everyone was getting letters.  As soon as we can get some names/addresses, I am happy to write/send cards to anyone.  Glad you all got your calls.  My son said he will be calling on Tuesday:)
