Welcome to PIR 06/01/2012

OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits  are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

nathomom:  If you sailor paid for the pictures, he can pay to mail home.  Can't do that though unless the SR paid for the pks---some will not pay for them and will have you pay for them after PIR in the NEX.  My son paid for his, but held them there and gave them to me after PIR.

Happy Memorial Day to all!  Remembering all past and present in our military today...and their sacrifices!  We Love Them!

Thanks so much juliebelle28, Shawn is real good about not asking too many questions but then he doesn't get a lot of info to share :-) ... I will definitely be coming to you with more questions as we go!  I feel like I just figured out boot camp and now we are on to something new!!  I am getting excited though, this will be a quick week with the holiday tomorrow, my dad has a small surgery on Tuesday and Wed we pack up to go!  No rest for the weary is what they say.

Congrats to all of the new Sailors and their families! My Sailor had his pics with him and gave them to me.  He had ordered the DVD and The Keel which arrived 6-7 weeks after PIR.  Just a heads up...TAKE LOTS OF TISSUES to PIR!!! I start tearing up just thinking of that moment when the doors rolled open and my Sailor's division marched in (they were the first one in)...everyone of them in perfect cadence and in perfect step.  It is a thing of beauty to behold.  Savor it and if you can...record it as it is not on the DVD of PIR. Also, I agree with Craig...electronics are cheaper at places other than the NEX.

My SR said he  had his pictures in his possession already?

Comment by nathomom on May 27, 2012 at 6:50pm

anyone know if the pictures will be mailed home, or to our SR, son graduates in four days and 15 hours, I get  up every time I think about it, safe bet I am going to be crying Friday morning-SO PROUD of them all!

Comment by diannep on May 27, 2012 at 3:58pm

Just a "heads up" for any planning to buy electronics at the NEX after PIR.  Our "go to"guy, a retired sailor on here, Craig, said that most times, for electronics, you will find them cheaper off-base, even though there is no tax charged at the NEX.  So...best to shop around if you/your then-sailor is purchasing!

Comment by Twinsmom on May 27, 2012 at 2:40pm

Yes, exactly!  I actually have twin girls too, so buying two of everything has been my life for the last 27 years!  I'll have to think about that Kindle Fire, may have to let them get it later when they have internet!

Comment by Twinsmom on May 27, 2012 at 2:19pm

Juliebelle, thanks for the info.  I think he does want to eventually get a newer laptop.  Son #2 that just left a few weeks ago said he would get a kindle fire later...?  So it sounds like it would just be for general web-suring and email.  I was wondering if it that would be a good grad gift, but I'd have to get 2!  LOL!

Congratulations to all our new sailors, please pray for Div 169/170 as they still have BattleStations ahead of then. Starting my first leg of the journey to PIR today. On my way to Mississippi now.
