Welcome to PIR 06/01/2012

OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits  are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Highdesertmom:  Don't know if you will be on here again, but we aren't allowed to post specific dates of BattleStations.  So if you get back on, just revise your post, leaving out the date, and hit that "x" in the original post box to delete!  Thanks!  Safe travel to you!

TJsMom: You don't need the pass if taking the shuttle, however---I would take a copy just in case.  If your sailor is staying in GL for A School, I understand you can use it for that base.  Or, if your sailor is flying out the next day, that pass will allow you to drive onto RTC when returning your sailor on PIR night.  So a copy...or two...is a good idea, I think!

Well, even if the train is 18 hours late, you would miss the MeetNGreets, but should be at PIR...just very sleep-deprived!.  Lots of prayers for a speedy trip!

Good Morning all!  Just two questions 1. Do we need to print the parking pass if we are taking a shuttle and cabbing while we are there?  2. I read some not so great things about Amtrak being really late like 18 hours late.  We are leaving on Wed at 2:15 with ETA of 9:45 Thurs morning....I hope we make it in time now I"m a little nervous!

I am sorry I have been away a lot for the last couple of days. Graduation was awesome and we had a wonderful party afterwards. Today we are all going for a drive across the Blue Ridge Parkway and going into Cherokee for a little shopping and a picnic. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

brittney, they will ask you for the Sailors name when you check in so they can mark you off the list. So if you don't get the name they may have to wait to get in but with only 9 divisions they should still get in. If you get there early enough they may not even have to wait. You could try telling them that the names are on someones list but you don't know the name but you at least know the division. They may be able to find it. I am sure it will be fine so try not to worry.

Dear PIR groups,

Sorry I have been MIA…Hubby has been sick (bronchitis…he had it bad) and then we were getting new appliances…bookshelves (I am a bookaholic ) so LOTS of Chores!

I have some PM’s to get too…sorry for the delay…Hubby took the other “men” (our three sons” to a Guy night with Church buds so the testosterone levels have dropped and I can think now! LOL Hugs to everyone!

Twinsmom/Shawn'sMom:  You all may want to go on the Nuke-Goosecreek group and ask them about bringing the laptop with them.  It is true that they will have alot of "stuff" to carry.  Their seabags (heavy), their garment bag (all uniforms in there)--both of these are checked through, and their backpacks.

Can't wait to hear how 167 did in Captains Cup today!!

Twinsmom, my son is headed to Goose Creek too and also said not to bother bringing his laptop to PIR, wants his phone though.  His concern was taking it on the plane, he said he would already have a lot to carry??  He just wants everything shipped once he gets an address.

Comment by Twinsmom on May 26, 2012 at 3:12pm

juliebelle, my son will be going to Nuke school at Goose Creek.  Do you think a Kindle Fire would be a good idea, because he is telling me not to bother bringing him his laptop to PIR..?  Will they actually be using these for studying or just for email and web surfing?
