Twinsmom - I highly recommend you plan to stay until Sunday. If your SR leaves earlier, just enjoy the sites and the mini-vacation. You would be very sad if you left early and missed time with your sailor!
Researching flights and hotel--is it best to plan on staying until Sunday since we won't know when they will ship out after PIR?
Let me echo that your best information will come from diannep and FTLW and the other veteran moms - they have been doing this for a long time and do it only out of the goodness of their hearts. They are fabulous sources of information to you. Don't forget to give them some love!
Let me also go a step further on being too personal with your posts. Don't post anything here that would let them figure out who your SR is. During our boot camp we had one mom post the nickname that the RDC had given her son. Then she posted some negative feelings her son had discussed with her. Naturally, the RDC knew who she was talking about and it can cause problems for the SR in boot camp. It's just best to keep the SRs anonymous for their own well being.
Welcome to you all and remember - no question is silly! Enjoy the ride!!!
Hi, all. Just stopping in to introduce myself. I'm a mom of two sailors who have gone through BC in the past year. I'm spending more time right now with a couple groups who are closer to PIR, but will begin checking in here, too. Please feel free to connect and / or ask questions. Meanwhile, I know other volunteer veteran moms are taking good of you!! ENJOY the journey--this is an experience for both You and your Sailor, and something you'll never forget. ;-)
Oh yeah, one more thing! Listen to the veteran moms - diannep, FTLW, La La, et al. They speaketh the truth!
Hopefully the division numbers contained in this PIR group will be posted today by RTC so all will know if they are in the right place! Once RTC posts them, either FTLW or Queenjailyle will post them here.
Great post, Bob'sMom! Especially the part about being careful what people post here. As long as you all don't get "too personal" with what you post re: what your SRs tell you, there is no problem. It is when letters are openly shared on here....that can cause problems for your SR. Posting timelines/ activities scheduled for them is fine....when they are doing firefighting, etc. But posting personal feelings your SR shared with you about bootcamp, the Navy, RDCs, shipmates, etc....if negative...not a good thing!
Also, remember...no last names are allowed on this site. We even recommend that you all don't use your SR's first names either....even though allowed. Best to remain more anonymous here. If you would like to share personal details of your SR's letter/phone call, please do so by private message.
Welcome ctav! It is very possible that this is the correct group for you. So stay here until we find out what divisions are part of this group. That could be tomorrow. FTLW will post them when they are posted by RTC. Welcome!
Our daughter left on 4/10. Ship 09 Div 172. We got her box last week but no letter yet so I hope I'm in the right group. She's another one leaving for SC after PIR to be a Nuke.
