Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

skinkneelove: Most likely, your division will be going through BattleStations during PIR week. We can't post actual dates here...not sure of them anyway. But be ready for an I'm a Sailor call any day that week, starting with Monday!

Lala - speaking of rain - we are getting rain every afternoon here in PA and expecting a real "gully washer" this afternoon. Our garden is loving it, though, and looking forward to all our fresh veggies! Hope you enjoyed the aquarium!

anyone taking Amtrak o/w and flying back to home to lower costs. Driving 14 hrs w/ me and tween. out of the question. booking ticket later today . Amtrak prices shot up by $60. "he who hesitates.is Lost......" you

You can stop mailing to them about a week before PIR. If you want to keep mailing, they try to forward to their A Schools but we recommend you copy letters sent that late and take with you to PIR just in case. You know how the mail service is....they may get there, they may not! :-)
Yes, Krose, Ajsmom is correct. 269/270 will be the last to become sailors!
radar granny: Yes, after BattleStations, they can purchase (nominal expense) computer time to get on their FBs. Many have found out they have sailors from FB accounts before they get the calls! They may elect to get on FB before they get their chance at the phones.
