N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning everyone, I am still in FL. Having a Meet and Greet today for all the Navy Moms and families in this area who want to come, even teaching them how to make a scrapbook in a box :) It should be lots of fun and I wish everyone here could come too :) Diannep, I still say you could hop in that car and make it here in plenty of time :) Get on 75 and head north and we will see you in 4 and half hours :)

On July 4th your recruits will have holiday routine with a little down time with some extra time to write hopefully. They won't get to see fireworks but according to my daughter who was there for the 4th of July in 2010 they will have the BEST meal ever, or least during boot camp lol. They have the BEST Apple Pie on the planet :) I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July this week.

D Navy:  Also, if staying at Navy Lodge, you will get a pass to visit the small NEX that ellen mentioned....without your sailor having to be present with you.  In the other NEXes, your sailor must be with you.  There is a very large NEX very close to the base (on Greenbay Rd) that we recommend you visit instead of the RTC NEX if you don't need to order pictures, etc.  It won't be as crowded and will have alot more to choose from.

MomLovesRyan.  Exactly right....when they say they are leaving RTC at ___, that is when the bus leaves for the airport.  Some of the sailors will be waiting most of the day on Saturday for their flights, but most will leave in the morning/early afternoon hours.

For those waiting at OHare Airport, if your sailor is leaving late afternoon, you may want to rent a room at the Hilton there (contained within airport) at the $55/day rate so you have a place to relax with your sailor.  A Navy Dad gave us this advice recently.  Did it with his son and said it was wonderful.

Although some leave the airports with their sailors to sightsee in these cases, we don't recommend doing that.  Should something happen that causes your sailor to be late for his/her flight, it is NOT a good thing!  The Navy does not look kindly on things like that and it would be your sailor's A School that would deal with it...not a good first impression of your sailor.

Good Morning All !

MomLovesRyan,

You're correct.  When our SRs talk about shipping out, it was about boarding the bus to leave for the airport.  I don't think they realize how important we need to know their actual flight time out is and they won't have that info until after Battlestations.

My Sailor daughter kept on saying they were shipping out at zero dark thirty (12:30 am).  She didn't realize that the flight time wat what we needed to know which was 11:00am--thank the Lord!!  Of course, I flew into Chicago O'Hare and my daughter flew out of Midway!!  My N4M friend flew into Midway and her Sailor daughter flew out of O'Hare!!  lol!!

dsaracino - I forgot to add, your son has already bonded to his 1st ship. That is the one he will remember the most. Had he only been on that ship for 2 weeks, I'd say just get the other one. But I think you are forced to get both since both will have a strong background to him.
What I'd do is let him decide if he what's one or the other, or both. I bet he'll want to keep both.... However, if he doesn't, just ship whichever one back, and you'll get your money back. I only do the coin thing as a hobby to keep my website, NavyDEP.com, up. I love helping future sailors! But more so, I am a sailor, i still work with the Navy, and all of my family members are Navy. I want whoever buys our products 100% satisfied. We will only sell items that sailors want. We guarantee everything we sell. Just look at our feedback on Ebay. Sailors have the pride thing going on!,,,,

Hey ladies...
Been busy celebrating my 27th wedding anniversary in Steamboat Springs Colorado.
Anyways, the USS Triton is now back up and available on Ebay. The easiest way to get there is going to www.pirgifts.com
The "ships coin" is only available on Ebay. It just makes it easy for bookkeeping. When you guys are at PIR and that door goes rolling up, your hearts will be beating so hard from your chest. It's totally awesome.... God bless your sailors!!!

There is not a  NEX within walking distance, but there is a NEX convenience store that is within walking distance of the Navy Lodge.

The Navy Lodge is close enough to the base that you can actually hear TAPS being played in the evening.

A year ago when we left the hotel Friday evening to go to dinner, we got to the car and heard TAPS start. My son stopped, turned in the direction of the sound, and stood at attention until it was done.

The tears once again flowed very easy as I stood there looking at my son in his dress blues with TAPS playing in the distance.

I don't know what to think- this is my first time going through all of this! Thank god for NAVY FOR MOMS I'm learning so much through this site! I made reservations through Courtyard by Marroit but I'm thinking of calling the a Navy Lodge and booking there- it says you can walk to NEX? Is it that close to where our SRs are? Gosh I wander if we would be able to hear the siren go when they call Taps lights out from there?

Proud mom 2013 - Which division is he in? Also....I'm coming to think that when they say they are shipping out at such & such a time, it means that that's when the bus is leaving (or arriving) at the airport. Their flight may not leave for quite a few hours later - so, if you stay with him at the airport, you would have that extra time to be with him. (I think I'm correct on this. Anyone...correct me if I'm wrong, please.)
