N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning everyone, it is a quiet morning here after a house full of people all weekend. Now if I could just get rid of this chest congestion and feel better. Uggg I hate being sick.

For those of you you have a recruit in the 900 divisions here is some info to help you understand the performing divisions :)

Performing divisions info:

There are actually three different performing divisions that rotate. One is a working group called ships staff and they work behind the scenes with VIP's and as greeters, side boys and body snatchers. Side boys for a Receiving line for the VIP's to enter through at the start of the ceremony. Body snatchers walk up and down the isles of sailors and make eye contact and even speak to the sailors to make sure they are not about to pass out. They often lock their knees because they have to stand in one spot for such a long time. If they lock their knees it can cut off the blood flow and cause them to faint. Of course the sailor behind them does their best to catch them :) Another part of the performing divisions is the flag corp and they carry and perform with the 50 state flags during the ceremony. The third part is known as The Triple Threat. The Triple Threat is made up of the band, drill team and choir and they all perform throughout the ceremony. It is so amazing how they can pull this all off in such a short time and still accomplish all that is to be done during boot camp. They are either chosen for this division or they can volunteer for it. If they have band, flagcorps, drill team, choir, or marching experience they can volunteer. They can also be handpicked or volunteer if they have high ASVAB scores. They don't expect them to need as much time to study which gives a lot more time for practice :) Once they are in the performing DIV they may be able to try out to be a part of the Triple Threat and be in the band, choir, or drill team. I hope this helps you all understand what your recruits are doing.

Proudmom2013: I missed mine to. I never go anywhere on Sunday but been having hard time with my SR leaving and some other things so my mom took me to a late lunch. My job as a nurse requires that I take call and so I am so use to having my cell phone physically touching me so I don't miss calls. But for some reason my phone did not ring nor vibrate. But he did get to talk to his brothers at home. Plus I record a special message at the end of my greeting for him. I know when he hears it I am going to get the usually "really mom, kisses and hugs and mommy loves you" but I know he liked it. He got to talk to his brother and told them to tell me he got the message.

They can pay for their formal pictures out of their pay or with their recruit card if they have enough....or....you can pay for the pictures after PIR next to the NEX and get them then.

I got a call from my SR in 936 around 3 central time. I was beginning to think that I wouldn't hear from her - and she called. I was dutifully carrying my cell phone around anyway. But, she called the house phone, and luckily, I just happened to be home. So , forward your house phones to your cell phones. I am doing that now.

Proud mom 2013 - By the time I got my call, I had pretty much given up on getting a call, too. I even kept 2 cell phones on me all day and only used the other one to make calls, just so his would come in 'at the just the wrong time'. I even didn't shop at a store I really needed to go to because they don't have cell phone reception. And, get this....I went to a baby shower with 100 people there and it was so noisy (no carpeting), that I kept my cell in my bra (for heaven's sake) just so it would be close enought to my ear to hear. Well, after all that.....no call.....until 5pm! And, it took me such surprise!

Comment by diannep on June 9, 2013 at 7:40am

Awww....wow, Proud mom.  Sadly, we hear those stories alot!  That is why we suggest vibrate and ring, and IN THE BRA!  But so glad you have that message to listen to as many times as you want to.  At least he got to hear your voice on the voicemail greeting!  Hoping another call is not too far off in the future for you!

ProudMomSean:  Most of them get sick during Bootcamp.  Maybe from too many vaccinations at one time, coupled with very close quarters?  Even those who normally don't get sick like my son....get sick.  But the RDCs are good about giving light duty to try to keep them training and most are able to.  Hoping he feels better soon!

Good Morning!

Yikes!! That stinks, Proud mom 2013!!  When I go somewhere loud, I switch to "Vibrate" on my phone~~  Well, at least you have his voice message and he knows you well!

Comment by Proud mom 2013 on June 9, 2013 at 12:08am
Hi all! I am so upset - I kept the cell phone by my side all day - figured I wasn't going to hear from Him ad the day went on but I still kept my phone by my side... Went to dinner - it was noisy when we walked in - and in the five minutes it took to walk from the car to our table my son called and I missed it! I couldn't believe it!!! The only good thing is now I have his message and I can listen to his voice whenever I want! The first thing he said on his message to me was "boy mom you are going to be so bummed that you missed this call). He is so right!!!
