N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thank you all for the information. I can still get my SR to change the names on the list can't I?

Ajsmom:  Here is the info from the RTC site:

Ajsmom:  Yep, the recruiter has incorrect info...sigh.  I think where they got confused is that prior to January of this year, the rule was that children 12 and under got in without being on the list.  But they changed that this year to only 2 yrs and under not having to be on the list---3 yrs and above have to be on the lists.  I hate for any of you to miss this, but just don't see how it can be helped.  So sorry!

You may want to call the recruiter and update on the new info.

I will have to see if we can change the names on the list then because it is my SR's brother and sister and they would be heartbroken if they couldn't see him at PIR. Thank you for the help.

Ajsmom,

Unfortunately, the recruiter has given you incorrect information.  Recruit Training Command just changed their policy regarding children this year, so anyone 3 years old and up must be on the PIR list and their names are put on there by your SR.  If the children can't be left at home with family, then someone from your group will have to stay at the hotel with the children.  The children will not be allowed in if they are not on the list.  If your SR puts the children on the list, they will need school id with a photo or their birth certificate or social security card.  Maybe 1 of the adults will need to stay at the hotel with 1 child, then the other child can be added to the list.  If the PIR dvd is purchased for $29, then that can be shown to family who were unable to attend the PIR.

They are both older. That's why the recruiter told my son to list the adults and that there would always be extra seats and they would never turn the kids away
Comment by diannep on June 4, 2013 at 4:44pm

Ajsmom:  Are the children two and under?  If so, they don't need to be on the list and they don't count in the "4" guests.  But if 3 yrs old and up, they have to be included in the count and on the list.

We have 4 adults going to PIR and 2 children. My sons recruiter says that they won't turn away the children and they are not listed in his sheet. I am concerned about that. I don't want my son to get into trouble.

Darleen:  Unfortunately, the "extras" won't be allowed on RTC even after PIR....so it might be best to meet them back at the hotel.  You can be decorating the room for a big party!  :-)
