N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello ladies! I'm new. My Husband is Ship 13 Div 334. He called last Saturday and I got my first letters from him yesterday! Counting down the days until PIR!

Craig:  Thanks for posting all that information!!  I will check back in a week to see if the Marvin Shields Ship-13 coin is available.  Sorry to hear that the minting press was wiped out by Sandy.  We're on Long Island and had our own share of damage from that storm.  What an incredible contribution you personally have made to help future sailors and their families.  I am in awe of all you have done and continue to do to help others.  I was not aware of your website but now I am.  You see, our son lived out of state at the time he decided to join the Navy so we didn't have those dinnertime conversations each night where we learned what was happening with him.  We would only get snippets of conversations here and there when he would call us with information.  There is just so much for me to learn about the Navy.

Well, I checked the mail today and  found.....  more bills. haha No written words from SR yet.  But that's okay.  We didn't expect a phone call last week and at that point he sounded fine.  I choose to think that things are still going well for him -- my guess is he thought the phone call might have been enough to keep us happy for now.

I am so happy for those who have heard from their SRs.  I can read the excitement you feel when you hold his/her letter in your hands.  Thanks so much for sharing your stories here for the rest of us.

Loving life......my heart goes out to you. I feel like I'm waiting for a letter of him being uncertain. I know it's normal to feel this way the 1st 3 weeks. I will pray for him to to make it through 1 day at a time. If I look at the weeks, I get overwhelmed. Keeps us updated .

Strange thing happened. Yesterday when I got the mail, I checked to see if I had a letter from my SR (like I do everyday). I didn't see a letter. I gathered my things from the car and went inside. This morning when I went to go out to my car to go to work, I noticed a wet (from dew) envelope on the ground. I thought maybe one of the neighbors dropped it on the way to the mailbox so I picked it up figuring I would drop it off for them. Lo and behold it was a letter from my SR. When I read it I was so sad for him. He wrote it on the 21st and was having a very difficult time adjusting. I've not had a phone call saying that he's coming home so I'm hoping that when he finally started getting my letters this week that now he might be feeling better. I was very encouraging and sent some comic strips to make him smile. Please pray for him as I do for him and all the other recruits. Thanks!

Craig,

Thanks for your post on the history of how NavyDEP.com is funded by www.pirgifts.com!!  I love finding out about the background of stuff and can hardly wait to finally give my Sailor daughter her IT coin and Core Values coin!!  She graduates on August 6th!!
