~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Flo'sMom,

Navy Lodge has the most inexpensive rates.  I think $66 a night and the rooms must be reserved in your SR's name.  It is very nice and clean.  They give you a breakfast in a bag on PIR morning.  It is off base and close by and you do need to drive to PIR or schedule a shuttle for $3/per person each way.  My Sailor daughter rode back to our hotel for free!  Not sure how many rooms you can reserve under her name.

Scoobydoo, my daughter is the same ship/division, maybe they are friends!  :)  I see alot of sons on here, not many girls, so nice to see!

Scoobydoo and bchis:

I am on my 2nd child in boot camp so was through this 2 years ago.  Although Navy rules change, I will tell you my experience was my sailor had to return to base each night the weekend after graduation.  He actually flew out on Saturday to go to A school so I only was able to see him after graduation until he was due back to base Friday evening.

He has friends that were staying at GL for A school and they were granted day leave, unless they had to stand post (may be wrong term- sorry) for both Saturday and Sunday.  He could not tell me what liberty was granted in GL after the weekend.

He went to SC and he was able to go shopping to get a new phone and computer Sunday, but then he kept pretty busy the next week.  He can't remember if he wasn't allowed to leave base or if he was just too busy that he didn't but he kind of thought he was not allowed.

I know that is a different base than GL but I would not count on time the week after grad.  Sorry

Ship 14 Division 335. September 6 sounds just so far away right now.  I know that my baby girl is in good hands and that she is becoming stronger mentally, emotionally and physically every day but as mom it is my job to worry as long as she never figures out that I am actually worried.  My ex-husband and I have a very large family 5 children and that does not included their spouses and children.  We would really like to include everyone in the trip to see her as this would be a great motivator for their sister before she leaves for A-school.

Can anyone direct me to cheap (and I mean cheap as in under about $80 per night with tax) lodging within driving distance? Am also hoping to be able to have most of them drive instead of fly.  Any money saving tips you can provide would be appreciated.

I guess everyone might have different experiences.  The address ship and division her recruiter gave me was correct.  I also received a personal letter from her last week because they were being good and their chief on P-Hold allowed them to write.  That had the same SHIP/DIV on it.

She left the same day your son did, 7/9.  Sure is going by fast!  This site has definitely made it easier to hand for sure.  My wife is also on here and between the two of us, we are staying more informed than it seems our Daughter is lol.

Does anyone know if after graduation if they are allowed to spend the entire weekend with family, or do they have to return to base everynight?

I meant I wasn't able to confirm the ship and division with him.

Comment by zachsmom94 (Ship 3 DIV 338) on July 23, 2013 at 12:54pm

I wasn't able to confirm the address with him, because I didn't ask him when he called, because I was under the assumption that it was correct because the recruiter gave it to me. But, I have read many places not to trust that is the correct one. I just pray that was the correct one, as I know mail is their lifeline right now. When did your daughter go to GL (navydad206)?
