Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

He said it was really hard to be away from his home. I told him this would always be his home but to enjoy this! We told him to be strong and that we all have faith in him. We're in NC. Where are you? What's your son's name?

Comment by CFNavymom Ship 14 Div 425 on September 21, 2013 at 5:02pm: We got our call today too! It was amazing to our SR's voice. His voice cracked a little but he pulled through great. We all cried afterwards. He was able to talk for 10 minutes, it seemed like an hour with all the information we passed back and forth. It filled my heart just to hear his voice. One question...the letter we received and have using the address has Ship 14 Unit 425. I see on here Ship 14 Unit 426 a lot, is my letter wrong or are there more than one unit per ship?

Comment by diannep on September 21, 2013 at 4:04pm: Ladies, the calls will become much more positive by about training week 4...bootcamp week 5 or so. By then, they have accomplished alot, the yelling has calmed down a bit, and they see the "prize" in their near future! So hang in there....keep writing lots of encouraging letters to them....don't share any negative news...only positive. Keep them uplifted! They will be sailors before you know it! :-)

Comment by diannep on September 21, 2013 at 3:56pm: Yes, they should have Liberty on Veteran's Day....a treat for those with sailors staying in GL for A School....but sadly, the ones flying out will either be flying out on Saturday or Sunday (usually Saturday)....so no extra visit time with them on that Monday.
