~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

missjenny75,

The PIR ribbons are made by Lala, one of the veteran moms here.  They are to show support to your Sailor and maybe id you to other Navy for Moms on this site.  Her website to order them and other goodies is www.uniquememorymakers.com

The photo packages are for the official pictures that are taken of each Sailor and they also get one of their division all in their dress uniforms.  There is a Keel (yearbook) included for free in the $140 package A.  Make sure you order the separate PIR dvd for $29--it is a real treasure!!

Your SR will put your real names on a PIR access list about a week before PIR.  If there are 2 other family members that can attend, please write your SR to ask him to include those names.

Govt shutdown info re: RTC posted on RTC FB:

Training Support Center, Great Lakes and learning sites:

  • In-processing of new recruits will continue. For now there have been no changes in published Great Lakes Recruit Training Command (RTC) graduation schedules.
  • The length of the shutdown will determine the exact impact to the training pipeline. There may be delays in moving new Sailors from boot camp to follow-on assignments.
  • The concern is that a shutdown that lasts several weeks could have similar effects to those experienced after Hurricane Ivan, in which large backlogs of students developed within days.
    • It took more than six months to work through the backlog, even with increased classes in the pipeline.
  • Officials at Great Lakes and the Fleet Training Support Centers will provided updated guidance as more information becomes available.

Grayce:  Yes, tell them you will be there for Navy Graduation and book in your SR's name.  I believe the rooms run from around $66 - $71 (maybe higher) depending on kitchenettes, etc.  Those who have stayed there in the past, including some of your N4Moms veteran team members, enjoyed it.

PIR DVD is recommended to order!  $29  Tell your SR, or you can order after PIR.

TiffanysMom:  There are different pkgs they can get.  The best "deal" is the Pkg A....$140....includes The Keel (yearbook) for free if your SR orders it before PIR.  You must order a package deal before you can order any "extras" of individual piks, we have been told.  Here is the Photo Lab number if you have more questions:

Do yall know how much the pictures are?

I found a much cheaper flight from Raleigh/Durham Airport, by about $300, than the ones departing from Charlotte NC.  It's a little further to drive...I'm working on him.  My husband decided yesterday that we would just drive up instead of flying and I'll need to call today to make hotel reservations.

From what I've read on here and seen online, the closest and one of the better choices is the Navy Lodge, we can use our own vehicle if we're driving up. So if I call and tell them I need to reserve a room for 2-3 nights and tell them it's for PIR 8 Nov, I just give them our SR's name and they discount it for PIR?
