Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on September 27, 2013 at 2:32pm: Finishing in the top 2 of your A School class! Then you get to pick...but of course, the Navy has final selection. You can only pick from where you are needed...they won't create a spot for someone!

Comment by diannep on September 27, 2013 at 2:21pm: Gavinsmom: Don't believe that the MeetandGreet is at the Holiday Inn, but Sarge's is close by. The other one is at Ramada. Now, it is possible that Holiday Inn Express has some kind of MeetandGreet for its guests, but don't think it is just for Navy personnel like Sarge's and the Ramada's is. Sarges is at the Sundance Saloon which is nearby.

There is no problem putting he reservation in your SRs name, and the hotel may ask that at some point you bring your SAILOR by the desk.

I read a few reviews where people arrived after reserving and they had no rooms. I hope that's a rarity. My husband served 2 terms in the Marines and was in the gulf war, maybe we won't need our SR to sponsor us.

Comment by ellen0502 on September 27, 2013 at 12:05pm: JKRMommy, I don't know about overbooking at the Navy Lodge, haven't heard that. We stayed there when my son graduated and would go back.

The Navy Gateway Inn and Suites is on base. If you do not hold a military ID you must first go through a background check before your reservation is approved. Your SAILOR must also submit a chit to be allowed at the hotel. If you don't have a military ID you are also limited on where you can go on base without your SAILOR, and are pretty much limited to the hotel and in and out of the gate.
