Dear Washington Navy Moms,
I need a little help here and right now am trying to do a little discreet research. Can anyone give me some info about Fleet and Family Services there in WA? Who are they - I understand they are not military - what do they do and is there a way for parents to contact them? What are their duties or purpose?
I appreciate any info you may have and if it's better to accomplish any of this by way of private message or private emails I will be agreeable to that.
Thank you,
Anna

Cheryle... if he is driving across the states on his way to Washington check out the rescue sailor page on this site... We have moms and dads all over the US (almost every state) that have volunteered to aid a sailor in need... They offer a place to stay, hot meal, or pick up service for car break downs. Let us know if we can assist your sailor! But here is hoping his trip is a safe and great adventure!

There is a parking garage for military personnel at the west end of the Shipyard, and other parking lots also. The drive through Washington State will be awesome. He should strongly consider skipping coming into the Seattle area from the south via I-5, and instead use one of the mountain passes coming over from eastern Washington. There are three; WA-20 (North Cascades Hwy) is the furthest north and the most spectacular. The other two are US-2 through Stevens Pass, and I-90 through Snoqualmie Pass (main route other than I-5). I'm a little jealous - cross country driving trips are a great adventure if you don't drive long distances all the time.

To be clear - the Lincoln is temporarily in Bremerton, while planned work is accomplished here at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. It is normally in Everett. While the ship is in the Yard, they are running a high-speed passenger ferry between Everett and the Shipyard fo the ship's crew. I'm not sure if they have arranged for living quarters for single sailors in the Shipyard for the several months that it will be here before returning to Everett. I know married sailors will be making the ferry commute; from Barbooch, it sounds like they have accommodations for at least some of the single sailors.

Sounds like he will be in Everett... See the discussion above... barracks are what he has been living in while in school... different bases have different set ups... usually a shared room with a bathroom. They have weekly inspections of their rooms and eat in the chow hall. Most rooms have a refrigerator and microwave.

meet and greet is a chance for all of us to meet for lunch and have a chance to share stories and pictures! a really great chance to ask questions and visit with other navy moms, dads and siblings.

a lot of us also follow molly's adopt a soldier page on this site... so we will be bringing items to send to a seabee unit... every month the molly page moms adopt a different deployed navy group to support. this month the goal is to send a package representing every state.
so the question is everything green from the evergreen state??? or what kind of wonderful ideas can we come up with???

Whidbey... There are tons of rental places... they will need to decide how close to the base they want/need to be. They should not have much trouble to find a place... unless they want to be on the beach... then they will pay lots of money! If they do opt for a rental house they need to consider that they will could be on well water and a septic tank... New way to live for some folks...
