Another thought for all of you it was brought up in another PIR group a couple of weeks ago.
Be aware that your sailor may be a zombie...lol, not my word, but a good one to use. Your sailor may be extremely tired when he goes on liberty and may seem to nap at any given opportunity, the car, sitting in a chair etc., but will probably not want to stop "doing", and that's OK. They have been eight weeks with interrupted sleep or very little sleep and now they can relax...sort of. This brings me to the next point (this one comes from personal experience too).
Your sailor may also seem, well, paranoid when off base. They are told that even though they are off base there are still people watching them, maybe even someone from the base in civies. My son was afraid he was going to do something wrong and someone would find out, then who knows what would happen. Just let them know that as long as they aren't punching puppies and knocking over old people they will be fine.
Remind them cover (hat) off inside and cover on outside and anything else they may forget, don't let them smoke or drink tasty adult beverages and they will be fine. It will pass with them quickly I am sure, it just took my son that first day to relax a little bit, although he still looked at people with a wondering eye.
It may not happen with your sailor, but a heads up if it does. Don't worry about them if it does, just reassure them they are fine. The person you know is still in there just hiding for a bit.
VickiW the gate to pick them up after the move is almost a straight shot from the gate for PIR. These directions would be as though you were going to turn right to go to PIR. Instead of turning right into the gate for PIR (off Buckley Rd I think), go under the underpass and take the Sheridan Road exit (you don't have to take the expressway)it is a right exit and a loop (it comes up pretty quick) it curves around and that is the road the gate is on you can't miss it and it isn't far (I am going from memory here so...).
When you turn onto the road to the gate into the Base there is a round-about, the visitor center is on your left when you turn in. Park in the Visitor Center lot, get out of your car and walk to the gate. If you get there soon enough It is great fun to watch all of the sailors march to the gate in groups for liberty and listen to their cadence.
Don't forget to keep your parking pass and place it on your dash, you may be able to drive your sailor back to his barracks at night. The next day when you get there you will have to meet him/her at the gate again, but then you can probably drive back to the barracks to check them out and back in (everyone in the car must have ID). Don't forget you must check them back in at night, don't just drop them off.
Sorry I don't remember the exact address, but I believe it is Farragut Ave that you use for the Naval Base.
Safe travels this week everyone. Congratulations to all of you and you will have a great weekend!!!
I have a Mission Impossible for you Folks on this PIR group...our wonderful Retired Navy Member on here...Craig... needs some info. He runs the NavyDEP.com site and puts out some great help.
He needs to know the Identification of the two Buildings in the Rectangle with the arrow pointing to them. The numbers are 1313 and 1314. Please make sure to note the names with the numbers...which one is in front and which is in back.
You can right click on the Photo and Save it in your Computer.
BTW...the area on the Photo that says "Parking Lot Graduation" is incorrect. This is the Chapel Parking Lot and is across the compound from the Drill Hall (see the Bottom of the PIC) To the Drill Halls left you will see the Visitors Center in Green...to it's left will be the Parking Garage for PIR. The Red Dot off of Gate 8 is where you enter for PIR.
This message will self destruct in 5 seconds...
J/K...I'm also going to make this a Discussion for those that post a response. Thank you!
VickiW - ...and Anyone else with Sailors staying at TSC GL's for schooling:
Make sure that your Sailor has a working phone card still after PIR. This way they can call you to come and pick them up.
TSC GL is a half mile or so North of RTC. Here is a link to Classic Mapquest (once it comes up click Aerial View). The "A" is Ohio just about where Gate 8 is for PIR...then goes to "B" Farragut. I believe this is the Main Gate for TSC GL's.
Here is the link to the FB website for TSC. You can look at the "Notes" for tips on the Phases of Liberty (abridged) etc. There is a Map on the "About" page too!

Nancy - That is a wonderful platter your son made!
It must have been for the VIP's and/or the Honor Grads and their Families? They have a M & G for them before (or after) PIR.
Congratulations to all the new Sailors! Can't wait for Friday
yes I will need to call them as I don't see it on their website. Also, if they are staying at great lakes where do we pick them up for Liberty after they transfer to the base? I am putting together a list of addresses to take with me for the GPS... Trying to keep myself busy :)
