For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I don't post a lot because my job and my daughters keep me fairly busy but I read all of the comments here every day! Reading about your phone calls and letters and the excitement of every BC milesstone helps not miss my SR so much.

PIR is so close and I know everyone is excited about getting our "I am a Sailor" call. I unfortunately will miss mine. So please post when you get yours. I am travelling to Europe on business and will not have cell service for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully my voicemail will be full on my arrival back to the US on Thursday before PIR.

I will have internet access on occasion and will be reading everything you ladies can post... LOL

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on April 27, 2012 at 8:55am: As for advancing I believe there is a test they take when they first get there. It is all stuff they should have learned during DEP and would have had it all signed off on. I think, but I'm not sure, it includes a physical test as well and if they make a certain score they will advance from E-1 to E-2. All of that may have had to be done in DEP. They all get E-1 pay while in bootcamp but after they get out of boot they will get paid the additional amount they were owed if they were E-2.

If you want to continue to write, copy the letters and take the copies with you to PIR in case the letters didn't arrive and don't arrive at their A School (they are forwarded but we all know how that goes sometimes!).

I was wondering since there graduation is about in 2 weeks. When should I stop sending letters to him since they will be graduating on a Friday?
