Today is Thursday and this is the day I usually get letters from my SR, so I can't wait until 4:30PM comes and I can head home and check the mailbox.
@rluv Great! I can hardly wait!
Two years ago today my daughter went to MEPS, picked her rate and signed up to join the NAVY. I cannot believe it has really been two years. It is amazing how fast the time passes once bootcamp is over. I can't even begin to tell you how many people I have become friends with and many of them I have been able to meet and have even had some come to my house and stay with me while traveling across the country to see their Sailors. I have made some lifelong friends who share a common bond and I appreciate them all. It is all because of this wonderful site. I wouldn't be where or who I am today if it were not for Navy for Moms :-) I am truly blessed to have found this site <3
whitsmom, I yelled and cheered at my Nephews PIR! So did everyone else.they will let you know when to hold your cheers.
Got letters today from 926!
I don't know why a rental car would be any different than any other car or why that base would be any different. I drove onto the NAS Oceana Base in VA and the base where all the ships are at Norfolk a few days ago and I was in a rental. My Sailor was with me but she wasn't driving. I had actually heard you can't drive onto the A-school base at all if your Sailor isn't with you, like when you are picking them up. I heard that one mom wasn't expecting this and was still in her PJ's and had to walk somewhere from the gate to sign her Sailor out. I agree with Dianne, the A-school group may have a better answer for you.
Vicki: I know at RTC, you can drive on base as long as you have a copy of the rental car agreement showing insurance (or your own insurance card). Not sure if it is different for A School. Maybe you can ask on the Great Lakes A School group on here? Those ladies should know.
WhitsMom: Yes, Yes, Yes! Whoop, holler, cheer....during certain times! You will be able to celebrate as they enter the hall, big time. There are other times during the program, of course, when you won't be able to do that...when they are performing, have the speakers, etc. But the entrance of the sailors into the hall is BIG so save your energy for that time! And of course...when liberty is called....well, whoop and holler to your heart's content as you run to your sailor!
@rluv...It's so great that you all have such good humor...sounds a lot like me and my daughter...I miss her making me laugh, and never knowing just what she will say next! She never ceases to AMAZE me!
Also can anyone answer this question...Will we be allowed to whoop and holler at PIR? I wanna make sure I tell everyone beforehand...so no one will have to look at us and say, shhhhhhhhh! LOL
Question: I read that you can use your gate pass from PIR to get on base after graduation if your SR is staying in Great Lakes. That way you can pick them up at their A school. But I also read if you have a rental car that you can not drive it on base where their A school is. can someone clarify this? Are we allowe to use the gate pass from PIR if we have a rental car to go on base where their A school is?
