itzlogansmom: Yep, it's all normal! IT is a huge part of bootcamp....no worries! The story I shared when my son was there had a good ending...they all forgive each other and move on. It was just agonizing for that SR for the time of IT. They are a team and know they will all come out better if they respect that and continue to work that way!
BCmom: His gf and family live in Georgetown near Austin....so that is where he is. He likes it there, but always figured he would come back to FL after the Navy. Hoping to find a job soon. Just got approved for the GI Bill so starts college again soon (online since he is not a TX resident...Navy doesn't pay out of state tuition). So ....hopefully life is moving on!
I got two letters from my SR today. She is still in the "This sucks," phase. She is not complaining about being tired anymore so that is good and she did not mention anything about doing IT. She did say that almost everyone in their division failed thier inspection so she did not think she was going to be able to call, sol that explains it. She did say that she passed hers. She said that she has made some good friends which makes it easier and she is close with her bunk mate. But her bunk mate has a hurt shoulder and is probably going to get sent home. She says she hates shining boots and ironing, so other people do it for her and she does other things to help them. She says she is worried about passing the PFA, becauase she stinks at running. I know she can do it so I will continue to encourage her in my letters and not give up. She said to continue sending letters, because she loves hearing her name called during mail call.
@VickiW - I hope you get a letter today!!!! I hope they are not doing IT together and also hope it is not Logan's fault they haven't called. :)
@kimstn - thanks for the encouragement.... good thing he is stuborn like his momma!
@BCmom - IT is definitely approriate punishment for not writing his best and first girl (MOM). Unlike BC you can hug him when it is over. :) :) :)
Sherry - my SR writes me about daily activities and almost every other thing they do is "get beat" or "IT" because of not learning yet to work as a team. He said that the first couple of weeks are the RDC's thinning out of those that are not cut out for it or possibly gone for medical reasons. The fact that your SR is still there - he has something special and they are trying to help him reach deep and find it. You keep telling him to push, dig deep and hang in there. He will be a better man for what he has to endure now and will teach him so much about himself! I can "hear" it from SR already in the way he tells me about what they are doing and how he views things. I hear the voice of maturity showing through from the young boy we sent off on that plane last month.
My SR said that they sometimes are back at the compartment and it feels like the RDC's are "looking for a reason to beat us" for any infraction by one or all. Your SR is going through what all of them are.......it feels personal to him, but my guess is that it is no more him than any other SR in that division or any other.
Hang in there mom!!
Kimstn
Sherry, I can't speak for the Navy but I went through Army basic traing and IT was a very normal occurance as a group and singled out. It is their way to break all your old habbits and make you a good sailor in this case. The RDCs will look for things to make them do IT. All part of the strong mind and strong body thing. I hope I get a letter from my daughter today and find out why she did not get to call home. Maybe she is doing IT with Logan :)
