My son left for bootcamp today

My son just left today for BC.  They picked him up at 9:30 am.  He's 18 yrs old and I am very sad.  I don't know how to deal with the sadness.  I tried to be brave in front of him because I didn't want to make him feel sad.  He was suppose to go to Cal State Pomona when he graduated high school, but he told me 2 weeks before his orientation that he decided to join the Navy.  This was in August.  They took him to San Diego where they tested him and he got a score of 96.  He picked his job and…

Letters

My son left Jan. 19 and my daughter in law has only received 1 letter. I was wondering how often they get to write. It's so frustrating not hearing anything from him. Just want to know he is doing ok.

My Daughter Is One Step Closer!

My daughter is a senior in high school and is now officially in the Delayed Entry Program.  She went to MEPS this week, in the middle of the ice storm here in southwest/central Ohio!  She actually stayed an extra day to take the DLAB test and was very successful!  She's been assigned a job as a CTI.  I'll learn more tomorrow but it appears she'll leave around August for boot camp.  She is still interested in becoming a Rescue Swimmer but I guess that's a pretty tough test and this is an…

Half way there!

Our son is half way to graduation!  He's finished 4 weeks, and only 4 more to go.  When I look ahead four weeks, it seems forever, but when I look back on the four he just did, it does feel like it went by at a decent pace.  We miss him so much and cannot wait to see our changed man.  When he called he sounded like there was already change.  I hope the next half goes by quick so I can see my son!

Update on my husband!!

Ok now i'm able to sit down and share what my husband wrote:

Friday Dec. 31, 2010

He says that he received all my letters from Dec. 14th-20th and has been reading them and enjoying the card and pictures. He's sorry about the letters jumping around, they've been sooo busy the past 3 weeks.

He really misses us but the letters I sent him give him strength to keep going.

He's…

Reality Setting In

Last Thursday, Nathan (my son), went up to Columbus, OH to take his ASVABs, Physical, etc.  Came home Friday wearing a Navy Ball Cap.  When he walked in, he yelled out to me "Mom, I am a Sailor!"  Of course, I cried and hugged him.  I was so proud (and still am!).  He seemed different.  He walked a little taller and seemed more sure of himself.  Everyone I saw the next couple of days, the first thing I said to them is "my son joined the Navy!!"

On Tuesday, we all had to meet with his…

Helping my brother with his Pay questions

My name is Justin and I have been in the Navy for 9 years. My brother recently swore in and while answering his pay questions, I realized how new sailors and their families can have little knowledge of all the different pays and benefits. I have created a website which is meant to help out my fellow Sailors (I don't advertise or accept pay of any kind) and is designed as a one stop shop for all current Navy pay information, explains and links to Navy related programs, benefits, laws, and… Continue

NAVY GRADUATION FEB 4th

Is anyone out there trying to make the graduation on Friday the 4th in Chicago?  I am trying to make it as I have a flight for tomorrow and I am scared I am going to get stuck at the airport or train station and not be able to get to my hotel or over to the graduation.  Does anyone have any help they know of?  I tried to call Public Affairs but they are closed today due to weather.  I would appreciate any help or advice as I am really scared traveling by myself.

Since the day she left

Since the day my baby girl left for GL my life has been changing in so many ways.

On December 11th our son called us and said "the baby is on the way, meet us at the hospital"  So up all night waiting on our first grandson to arrive and hoping he would make his appearance so he could meet his Auntie.  He did!  She got to meet him before she had to be at the recruiting center.

Then we dropped her off and waited for that call the next night to say I'm here!

I got the call…

The journey begins...

Yesterday was the beginning of this huge journey for my daughter. We went in and signed the parental consent form. Now, she will go to MEPS next week. This is such an exciting time for her. I do keep asking her everyday, "are you sure this is what you want to do?" and "have you changed your mind yet?". But I know that her answers will "yes" and "no". Especially since she is passing up a dream of hers to go to the college she has wanted to and planned to go to for 4 years for nursing. And…
