College?

So my boyfriend just joined the navy. He and I have plans to get married but that means relocating for me. I am currently enrolled in college. He told me not to worry, and that the military pays for even the spouse's college fees. One, does this mean My college would be paid off? And two, Are there specific requirements for my college to be paid off? Are there certain schools that the Navy approves of and are there and specific requirements on majors? If you know, please answer back, I would…

Honored to be my son's mom

Being a military mom is quite difficult, definitely not easy. Not that being a mom is easy; however military moms face unique challenges. I have being a military mom for 38 days. My son’s room is empty without him. I see his clothes, his shoes, his t.v., his books, his bed, his alarm clock, yet the room is empty. I sleep on his bed when the pain of missing him is unbearable, my younger children hang out in his room when they are missing him, yet the room is empty.

For the last 38 days…

A voice said: " YOU GOT MAIL" ~ My 1st Letter

Received my 1st letter from my son today.  My Sr. thanked me and the family for all the encouraging letters and cards.  He said they brighten his evenings every time he reads them.  He is making a lot of friends and the days are beginning to become more interesting and go by quicker. He says he can't wait to march with his division in uniform @ graduation.

Helping Siblings understand the sacrifice that they are not the only ones missing big sister/brother

Most of my 5 Children are older than my girl but my younger son is ten and his sister has been gone for just over a week.  He is definitely missing her but does not seem able to put his thoughts into words and is instead acting out a bit.

I have tried to include him in the information that is out there to help us understand what she is doing, where she is and when he will get to talk with her next but he is being difficult about it.  He says that noone he knows has a brother…

PIR lodging, transportation

Just returned from RTC and PIR.   A few things to pass on to families visiting for the first time.  The Navy Base has 3 motels on the grounds plus the Navy Lodge.   Navy Lodge is being renovated but is still open.  Area motels are very friendly and helpful  to the  families.  Most have special rates for recruit families, call and ask for the discount when booking.  There may be 3-4  Meet and Greet on the same night.  The one Sarge does at the Sundance Saloon was very informative, he had a…

is it okay??

does anyone know if it is okay to give out a military person's number? I am trying to help someone out with getting overseas medical clearence and was wanting to give her the number of the person that helped me. I dont think it would be a big deal but then again there is a reason you cant just google the number in the first place. I  want to make sure it is okay before i give it out.

Thanks!!!!

Utilize your Face Book

Last week I posted I had a writing party with my son's friends, fed them dinner and they wrote letters.  It was so much fun and I mailed them last week, so I'm sure he will get them this Friday.  I decided to take it a step further and created a event on my Face Book and ask everyone to send me a few words to my son whether they know him or not (1,517 friends were invited) and within 20 minutes, I had 8 letters sent to me.  It was friends from Jr. High, old work friends, ones I don't talk…

Silly Man

So the other day I read a mom say that she got her son's belongings from boot camp and that it had his clothes minus his drawers cause they had thrown them away. So my thought was "goood, I don't need those sent to me". My son played sports all through high school and the one thing I hated was washing sweaty socks and drawers, lol. He always left his socks balled up so when I had to unball them, they were still sweaty, or he'd bring home old crusted socks and drawers from his gym locker. He… Continue

It's golden!!

Who would have thought a form letter could mean so much! It's like I won the lottery ;) or the golden ticket from Willie Wonka
Received it and in less than fifteen had mine ready to go back out to J.
Didn't know this boy could write so neatly....bet his teachers would be surprised too!
Any other Moms with sailors on Ship 13 Division 333?
Would love to meet you!

No Contact

I have not had any contact from my son for close to a month now and I am very concerned. He is stationed upon the U.S.S. George Washington. I do not know what to do. I have been praying for his safety every day and every night. His siblings are also worried. We were able to communicate on Facebook before they left port. Now he does not answer our posts. When he did call home the quality of the phone calls was poor to say the least. Is this normal?  Do they not have a better way for these…

End of Week 1

My baby girl shipped out one week ago today.  I miss her like crazy but am so proud of her choice and her dedication.  She has known for over a year what she wanted to do and she followed thru.

Have been researching the PIR and was disappointed to see that only 3 to 4 guests can attend since she has 2 sister and 2 brothers plus her Dad, me, neices, nephews and her brother and sister in law.  It will be her choice who attends but since I intend to visit while she is in…

Cakes in a Jar - that don't go bad!

Here is a tip for all of you who would like to send your sailor a little something sweet from home but don't want it to spoil before it gets to the destination.  I have tested this recipe and a few different containers and will include my notes.  Sadly, I won't send it to my sailor because he doesn't care for cake.

What you need:

1 box of angel food cake mix

1 box of other cake mix, any flavor.

1 large container to send the mix in

1 measuring spoon…

TRYING TO MAKE PLANS FOR GRADUATION..... PLEASE HELP...

Making plans for graduation is very frustrating because of all the ifs and not knowing.  Fortunately, my son has been able to call several times he said something about it being a reward. My son is going to be going to A school in Mississippi and from what I have read it says he will get liberty for that day proceeding graduation and ship in the AM because his A school is out of state.  But, when he called he said to book the flights and rooms for 3 days, because he wasn’t sure if his…

Writing Party

My son left for boot camp July 1, I had some of his friends over at the house the other night and made dinner for them, they all wrote letters to him.  It was good to have them around made me realize how much his friends care and at the same time, it will be a big surprise when he gets the letters.
