Well my son is now a sailor. BS was last week and of course he made it through, which I knew he would. Gradutation is this Friday Sept 14, it has gone so fast. Eight weeks ago I was thinking it was so far away how will I get through but thanks to navy4moms and the PIR group on FB has helped a bunch thanks again. To all the new sailors best of luck.

I'm not asking you to read this blog! Although I do appreciate being read by you.
I'm suggesting a couple of books that you, your SR's parents or siblings might enjoy reading. I found out about these books by reading a blog by another Navy Mom written ages ago. My husband has been enjoying reading these and I think they provide us with a little comfort in learning what our SR is learning. And seeing a little into boot camp life is never a bad thing, as we're all pretty much out of…

My little brother is in basic for a week now and it is so weird not be able to pick up the phone and talk to him. I am pretty close to him and this is just an odd feeling. He called and my mom said he sounded pretty good but is having a hard time adjusting. I know he will get through it but yesterday I went to the movies and went to text him about it and realized that he does not have his phone. We don't have his address and have yet to send him letters so I am hoping to get that soon so…

I hate to be on my soapbox today, but after reading about all the discipline problems with the Ga Bulldogs – (and they are not alone in the college world when it comes to behavior issues) I got to thinking.
I spent 20 years in the Navy. For at least 14 of those years, I was in some type of leadership position. The last 10 years I was blessed to have responsibility in one way or another for 50 – 80 Sailors at a time. So out of those 50 – 80 Sailors over the course of…

My Boot camp/Graduation experience as a mom.
My son left June 14th 2012 for Great Lakes, he classed up right away, and maybe 3 or 4 Processing days and was put in a division to graduate on August 10th. (so 8 weeks and 1 day there)
I got the “I’m here call” about 10pm eastern time on the 14th. Got the box the following Tuesday, and the first mail didn’t come till July 6th. It was 17 days until his division could write, so…

I watched for the mailman today and as soon as I opened my mailbox my heart jumped seeing a letter on top waiting for me from my SR. Oh how I miss him so much!!!!!! I cried reading his letter of four pages I'm so happy and so so so glad I finally got a letter, I'm hoping I get a phone call today also. I've read that our SR's may be able to call home on 2-3 and I think that's today, I hope. *Crossing Fingers* I miss my SR so much, I reread his letter so many times it just makes me so…

Good Morning,
Opening a new carton of milk, I notice it's right there!! No, not my son's face silly, the date for his PIR! The date on the milk EXP: Oct 12. Well, who would have thought that it would already be stamped on a milk carton? As I stood there pouring the milk into the bowl, I was transported to a big open space in Great Lakes Illinois and imagined hundreds and hundreds of blue (they will be blue by then, right?) uniforms parading in with flags…

So Finally we got our 1st letter from our daughter. Her pir is 10/19. It was very emotional for me, but i am so very proud of my changa and know that she is gonna be successful. I can't wait to see her. It was so good to hear from her and know that she is ok. I guess that we just needed that reassurance.

Yesterday made week 3, We have gotten 2 letters but no call. Thank God he sounds good and seems to be enjoying it. It is so hard in this quiet house. His big brother keeps busy, I am sure not to miss him being here. So my husband and I write letters and try to keep busy. I cannot wait till PIR, 10/12! I lost my Dad a few weeks before Brandon left, so I am grieving 2 losses, but thankfully, I get to watch one loss grow into greatness!!!

uugh! The waiting is killing us. Still no letter and no call. I know her recruiter said to wait at least 3 weeks, but just knowing that the call and/or letter could come any minute is horrible.Torture! Everyone says no news is good news. I don't know if my patience will hold. The suspense is really bad. The husband is also awaiting any news from her. He tells me just relax. Yes i should but then i remind him she is my 1st born how do i just relax? LOL! Well i'm off to do some "relaxing" i…

I was at church tonight and went to choir practice. Today, I felt happier than I have felt in a very long time. After practice, our director asked if I was okay. "You seem so sad," he said...and my sister-in-law agreed. WOW. This is hard, there is no denying that. As my husband so aptly said: This is boot camp for parents, too.
When we got the form letter giving us the PIR date, we waited a few days then bought plane tickets and began planning our trip to Great Lakes.
First…

We are counting the days down! Seems like just yesterday he made the decision to join and we signed agreeing to everything. It is so hard to believe in just 12 days he will be gone!!! I can tell he is getting nervous, he is ill and one minute wants to do a going away party and the next he just wants to be left alone. "It's not the big a deal MOM!" I hear this a LOT!! BUt, i keep telling him yes it is, and that I am so proud of the man he is becoming! IT si amazing watching the transformation…

Got up from the buzz at the door, it was the delivery agent with my passport in his hand. He asked me to gsgn the thing and left. I was gobsmacked when I saw that I was granted a TEN year visa! It was more than I asked for and expected. There is no doubt about it, God is so good all the time!
Last night,…
