Hey there Navy Moms! Also, this site has been incredibly useful to me and I would not have survived without it. Thank you Navy moms!

Daughter leaves December 10

I am new and this is so confusing for me. My daughter will leave December 10 to Great Lakes but I have really not been informed of anything other than the date that she is leaving. I know nothing of what will happen after she leaves my door and it terrifies me!

honor guard offer

hello all,  so my daughter was offered honor guard. it sounded good at the start until we read that she can not advance above E3 and that she really puts off A school for 2 years while she is an honor guard while all the others from bootcamp are going forward with there dreams. My daughter souded like she had regrets signing the papers excepting this position if they offer it to her but is there any way for her to get out of this after she signed the first set of papers???  She is was going…

First Letter from my SR

I received my first letter from my son today! I was so excited when I opened the mail box and seen his letter. I didn't even get through the first sentence and the years were flowing. He's doing well and seems like he's adjusting being away from home, although he listed a few things he misses. He said he's eating healthy which made me chuckle a bit. It's only been a couple of weeks but feels like forever...He mentioned how excited he was to get his uniform and see his name stitched on it, he… Continue

Driving to PIR 11/01

Anyone else going to be driving to PIR? We are coming from OH and it’s really not that far of a drive. We plan to leave here Thurs morning early so we will have plenty of time that afternoon and evening to figure out where we are. My mother has bad knees so we will need to limit her amount of walking if possible. Is it difficult to drive into GL for PIR and is there handicap parking close? I sat down to book a hotel and now I’m feeling overwhelmed with the thought of the whole process and… Continue

Worried Mom

This is my first post. My son left for BC Aug 14th. He was in processing a week longer than normal because he was put in a 900 division that needed to be filled up. He has absolutely loved boot camp and all of his letters have been so upbeat and positive. It has really helped me stay positive and not dwell on missing him so much. He started week 4 on Monday, but we got a call from him on Tuesday. Apparently he had broken his pinky finger 10 days earlier. It was put in a splint, but when he…

She Arrived!

My daughter left on 9/17.  I have been preparing through this site (and others) reading everything I can since the end of February when she entered DEP.  I was prepared for the first 24hours!!  In fact, other than the hurry-up and wait, everything went better than expected!  My "I'm here" phone call came at 20:15 - about 6 hours earlier than I thought it would.  She was calm and there was no yelling in the background.  I have found the more I tell of my experience to friends and co-workers…

Been a while since I posted-we are now in Week 5 of BC

We are in Week 5 right now of boot camp. I haven't really posted in the blogs since my first one after he left for bootcamp.  So it has been a few weeks...lol...in those weeks, we have received our first letters, which were hard because he was struggling and he was so tired and homesick. To the first phone call, where we were able to talk to him for 20 whole minutes. He sounded so good..."Hi Ma'am its me James" brought tears to my eyes. He sounded so grown up and all I could picture is my…

Week one done!!

My son has been gone for 1 week today. The time really has gone fast. I write to him everyday and I try to update him on as many things as possible. His friends I’ve seen. His dogs. Me and my work. The family. The weather. Football scores. I write a Bible verse either at the beginning or end of every single letter. I printed some pictures today, including one of his great grandfather who was a chef in the Navy during WWII, wearing his Blues. My son looks so much like him! Keeping my head up.… Continue

BC letters and questionnaires

Hello, everyone!

My son is a week from his PIR, and ever since I received the "form letter", I've tried to send him letters, along with other entertaining reading, at least a few times a week.  Of course I keep it upbeat and positive.  But - I must admit - it was challenging to keep-up the pace with fresh, funny material, along with creative ways for us to communicate.  And because you're writing frequently, after a…

Ship 6?

Good morning and thank you for the service of your loved one!

We have missed two calls from our son in the past few days. One was early in the day on Monday and the other at about 11PM last night. These calls seem unusual in terms of time, and he left no message! I was able to learn that he was calling from Ship 6, but he was originally assigned to Ship 12 with a PIR date of Aug 30th.

We are dazed, confused, and lost. Does anyone know if Ship 6 houses regular divisions, or RCU…

Thank goodness for this site !

My son left for boot camp on August 13 and my girls and I left for a 10 day vacation to visit their dad who is working out of state the following day. I have been hounding our house sitter for a box and letter . Literally making myself a nervous wreck that it got misplaced and I won’t get to write him , because I am not home and missed the letter . Reading through all the info has calmed my nerves . He joined as a missile tech . We are going into this pretty clueless. We both thought he would… Continue

Call from son that he changed divisions separated from navy for medical reasons...what does this exactly mean

Hi All,

I've been keeping myself so busy but missing my son so much.  He called and left a voicemail last Aug 13.

In his brief phone call he said that he has been moved to a new division and that he has been separated from the navy due to medical reasons.

What exactly does this mean?  Is he being sent home? or is he injured and just waiting to start after recovery?

Is there any way for us to contact RTC to find out more info?

Thanks so much!

My Son Shipped on Tuesday...and we are now into the 2nd Day of him being gone.

Good Morning All,

It has been a whirl wind the last few days. With my son shipping out on tuesday and then trying to come back to our "normal" lives without him. We are all trying to keep busy, which with two other children is not hard. My daughter starts her senior year this year and that is craziness is a nutshell.  My middle son (it is the oldest who join the navy) is getting ready to start college at the local junior college and then there is the normal business of…
