Why do I have Garfield as my profile picture?
Garfield is very special - if you look closely at his cap it has a piece of tartan and a cap badge on it. Garfield is a Gordon Highlander, which is a regiment in the British Army.
With his regiment (and my husband's best friend who carried him) Garfield has seen combat in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Northern Ireland - usually strapped to the front of his friend's body armor while on patrol.
Garfield did think he had retired from…

My son flies to Great Lakes on Wednesday. I have been very good, trying not to cry. We have friends and family coming over this evening to wish him farewell. I had a sudden panic attack that really shook me up and got me off guard today. I know all will be well. But how do you let him go without being so sad? I hate what I feel inside right now, although I am very proud of him....

Proud to say I have 2 DEP boys in my house and one college student...of course only 1 is truly mine. I love listening to them talk...we talk about things I've read on site and discussed what it will be like.
Thank goodness for the one that isn't mine, he seems to share more than my son. …
ContinueToday we leave on a 3 wk family vacation to Alaska to see our eldest son, his wife and baby. I'm missing you Tom, and wish you were going with us to lend the brevity you always do, as Dad and I are arguing going into the trip, like always. (grin) You've made us so proud. Accepting the RCPO position and striving to keep it is huge, and impressive. You are born to lead, my gentle…

Dear N4M,
(Warning: This post is very personal, I am writing it because I feel that people need to know they arent alone. Please do not judge, or say negative comments towards it.)
This post is not nessicarly about the Navy, but about life in general. Has anyone here dealt with someone who is depressed? Or maybe you personally have battled your own bouts of depression. Well lately, it seems my life has been filled with this word. This scary, sad, helpless word that seems to…

Sitting here trying clear my head so i can lay down for a nights sleep before my other son (Twin) leaves for BC (army). His twin brother left 17 days ago for Navy BC and now he is leaving for Army BC. I am such a proud mom and very heavey hearted all at the sametime. I know that this what they both have always wanted but reality is so hard to face. In time the new norm around the house will seem easier just getting to that point seems so difficult and out of reach. The boys have always…

Mom Be Bold
I may clutch a picture of my child
Wander into his room where the memories run wild
Thoughts come with me wherever I go
Prayers often lead my way, you know
My young one has left to be so brave
The hero of my heart, gone to save
At times I want to reach out and hold
But I know his answer, "Mom be bold."
The love of my child is part of me
So strong and good, it will always be
Nurtured in life by a caring heart
This…

My SR graduates July 20th and he is suppose to fly out the next day to Nuke School in South Carolina. I was wondering i we will be able to go to Chicago for the day. I have heard different things on what is allowed. I am trying to plan things to do so we do not waste the day wondering what to do. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Me and some members of my Letters from Home Project have just started a new project to send out some care packages to sailors and soldiers deployed. If you have a loved one who is deployed and would like for their division or unit to receive a care package, please send me that name and address and I will add it to the list...thank you :)

My sailor boy should be in his 2 full day of Processing now. his call home went to his Dad, at 2:30 in the morning. Really wish he'd have called me. Probably good he didn't, I would have had way to many questions and things to say.
Miss him so very much already. More than I thought i would, I thought i was ready for this... NOT. LOL
I am very excited for him though. Am now awaiting the "box" to arrive.
Thanks for all the great info on this site.
