OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits  are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Good morning all, lots of good info on here today!  Busy day for me, my dad is having carpal tunnel surgery so I am off to the desert to spend the day, Lots of prayers and best wishes to our final few sailors that still have BattleStation this week.  I hope everybody has a wonderful day!!

Sarge is a great guy. However I do know that they usually receive their orders before Friday. My son called me on Wednesday before pir and gave me all of his flight info.

txbabydocmom:  Wow, so very sorry about the guy who had even completed Battlestations and was still sent home.  Can't help but think mandatory reductions in the Navy are affecting some of these decisions to send home SRs/sailors...very sad...still praying for yours!

Linden:  Here's hoping for quick healing for your SR and back to training!

cindy: Thanks for posting the info from Sarge!  He is a great help with transportation during PIR weekend and with his MeetNGreet. Not sure I agree with him saying not to be at the gate before 7:30 though...so many were at ours by a little after 7 that if we had waited until 7:30 to get the gate, we may not have had very good seat selection in our section (we also had 9 divisions but arrived at the gate by shuttle a little before 7)!  I would say be at the gate no later than 7, which allows entrance into PIR hall between 7-7:30.

Also, on his suggestion not to go into Chicago during liberty.  We always say leave this decision up to your sailor.  It is HIS/HER day!  But I know of many who thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Chicago on PIR day, so all should keep that as an option.  Some like to take the train to Chicago (station is right by RTC).  Very CHEAP train tickets.

Good morning all!

I am adding another post because I had a wonderful long conversation with Sarge this morning.  Keep in mind that this gentleman has been in Great Lakes for years and is retired military.  In my opinion he goes above and beyond duty for all the Sailors and their family/friends.  Can't wait to met him in person.  He asked me to post a few things:  first, please call or send him a message if you have any questions/concerns.  He is more than happy to answer those.  He will be unavailable for a few hours this evening but he will get back to you.

Sarge said they WILL NOT get their A school orders until Friday morning with flight details.  Sarge said the majority of the sailors going to Pensacola fly out of Midway between 12:30 and 6:30 a.m... of course NOTHING is wrote in stone and CAN change at the last minute.  Sarge said that YOU need to bring his cell phone, laptop (if he wants it), and BOXER SHORTS!  He can put all of that into his duffle bag that he will take on  his   flight.                                                                                          Now details about Friday from Sarge:  He said there is NO reason to be at the gate before 7:30 a.m..  Traffic will be backed up a mile before that time.  P.I.R. will be completed by approx. 10:35 a.m..  We will then get our sailor(s)  :)  He does NOT recommend driving into Chicago, 99.9 % of the sailors just want a nice meal, a nap, downtime and time alone with their families and girl/boyfriends!  And make sure they get back to training command before 8:00 p.m..  I found out so much from Sarge and he but my brain to rest regarding alot of the details.

Silly me.... not sure why I haven't "scrolled down" and saw all these posts!  Thought everyone had all but disappeared.  I know why my nickname is the Scarecrow ;)  Like all of you can't wait for Friday.  Thoughts and prayers go to those that can't be there.  Looking forward to seeing and meeting people at Sarge's.  My son sounds so excited for Friday and the next steps in his new Navy life!  So is his Mom!

txbabydoc, your son sounds very strong and has probably gotten a lot of this whole experience.  Even though this was his dream, he will still land in a great place.  Best wishes to you, your son, and your whole family!

Best to your and your son LindenEmry, and taxbabydocmom. I wish I could meet everyone at Sarge's and then at PIR but unfortunately due to my younger son graduating high school on June 1st I will not be arriving in Chicago until noon on Sat. But I will be met by my SR, his gf and his grandparents. Most likely we will spend the afternoon in Chicago and then possibly stay in and around Waukegan on Sun. We will be staying at the Red Carpet Inn. Maybe I will run in to some of you out and about. I hope everyone has a great weekend celebration!

SRMcJmom, I'm also flying out Thursday morning from SJ, and will be at Sarge's.  Are you flying out of SJ?  Can't believe it's actually PIR time!  Talked to my son for about 45 mins today, and also last Friday!  He sounds much more rested and relaxed now!  This is so exciting!

Ladies, just an update as requested.  My son strained some tendons in his knee and his PIR has been moved back two weeks (hopefully only that) depending on his recovery.   He was transfered to Ship 4 and is detemined to become a sailor.

It has been a pleasure getting to meet you all on the boards.  I wish I could have met you in person later this week.  The best to you all...
