OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I found Mike to be very off balance at not having someone telling him every step to take. He liked it but it was so different, it made him uncomfortable. We talked a lot about how boot camp is an indoctrination program. After that, life gets more and more "normal". My last 3 years in the Army were pretty much like any other job (except they can require you to do things your other employer can't!).

Luke Mom, I think I can help ya on this one, I was the same way ba k in the 80's. Well long story short, I told my Mom I was grown ( I was 19 stationed in CT). She goes on yeah, alright I will respect that. Not even a good 2 weeks I was calling my Mom for some of my things. Well she goes grown people don't have to call home for things that I bought they would have just replaced them. I ate my words, she mailed me my things but I learned I will always need my Mom. My advice send hI'm a text just to say hi and remind him you're there for him. He just going through a phase. I promise he will be calling you real soon!!!

MLDD, what is your daughter rate? My son is in FL as well (Corry Station); most of the recruits went to NAS Pensacola .

Not going anywhere either. I'll love talking with all of you.  Sailor has settled in. Likes his roommate. His roommate is in his 4 week. But, has been a wealth of information.

My son was the same way when he first went away to college. He completed almost 1 1/2 years before deciding the Navy was a better choice for him. He also said he didn't join the Navy first because I drilled college college college. Wish I could have shown more support for the Navy back then because he talked about joing all through high school. But as they say thins happen for a reason. My hubby says I'm more proud of him now than when he went away to college.

Thanks!!! My son is 19 but just graduated from high school
& this is his first time away from home. Im hoping he's just trying to feel like a grown up & thinks having contact with his parents makes him feel childish. Hopefully he will soon realize that our support is important to him whether he's 19 or 49....

My son was lucky enough that his bunk mate will be his roommate at Fort Sam! He hung with us at the airport on Saturday and seemed like a really nice guy.

Luke's mom how old is your son? I think sometimes they hurt our feelings without meaning too. With my son being in an all male division for eight weeks he had forgotten how inquisitive us females are. I understand your position though. I want to text him all the time now but I don't want him to think I'm smothering him. If you ever need someone to talk to who's in the same boat as you just let me know. I'm only a phone call away.

MamaL, I'm glad you mentioned how your daughter is feeling.  I talked to my son yesterday and he kept saying "I'm having an off day".  I prayed for him last night for a long time.  I felt so bad.  Then I started getting depressed, thinking now it really feels like he has moved away.  Before, I just thought about how I can get through these first eight weeks.

My son has kind of hurt my feelings. I tried to text him the first night there & ask questions about his roomie & stuff & he got upset with me & said I ask too many questions & that he is on his own & doesn't need his mommy checking in on everything. I've just left him alone since them & am just going to let him contact when he wants to. I feel like I did so much to help him through BC & now it's just not needed. Not sure how to handle it.
