For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Continue being a mom, the Navy just takes over the parenting. :)

Comment by ellen0502 on October 2, 2013 at 7:21pm: missjenny75, I didn't see any venting. I personally would make sure all his bills are covered while he is on BC. Unless his bills are auto pay, he can do nothing about them while in BC. You can always settle up with him after graduation. :)

Comment by ellen0502 on October 2, 2013 at 5:57pm: missjenny, It is kind of a guessing game as to when their first paycheck arrives. It is usually about three weeks, but it can also depend on processing and phold. Seeing that 10/15 is more than three weeks for your son, I would expect it should be 10/15. Do not be surprised at the amount deposited, there have probably been several deductions for uniforms etc. The deduction for uniforms will be reimbursed. That reimbursement usually comes within the first thirty days after BC.

Remember though things don't always go as expected or planned, but his pay should "even" itself out within three or four pay periods.

Mommywysonq: Those flying out will have "Liberty" after PIR for the remainder of that day. They most likely will be bussed later that night/early morning to the airports to wait for their flights. Sometimes they don't fly until Sunday so if you can stay until then just in case, it would be worth it.

Those staying in GL for A School will have Daytime Liberty throughout the weekend so try to fly back late Sunday night or even Monday if yours is staying in GL.

All new sailors will need to be back on the base at night.
