@ Linda-My son is in the same Div as your SR and I sure hope that he wasn't the one that fell asleep. HA! He got to call his wife yesterday and didn't mention it, but who knows. I'm glad you got a letter today. I'm still waiting on one for me. :)
@WhitsMom that makes me so hopeful that I will get one too today when I get home. How was your daughter? The letter that my daughter wrote to my mom was not too upbeat.
I did get a letter today but my daughter is Ship 12 Division 147
Ryansgirl: No, you usually can't do this until they phase up. Except for weekend daytime liberty after PIR for GL A School students. If Ryan is flying out to A School, you will have to wait until he tells you he is phased up enough to see you. He will find all of this out when he arrives at A School and goes through "indoc."
Vicki: I hope she gets your letter soon, and may have received it before your mom got her letter. Just know that the beginning of bootcamp is quite difficult for most of them. It gets better by training week #4 (about bootcamp week #6). By then, they have accomplished alot and realize that they can do this--yelling gets less too!! So just keep encouraging her in your letters...sharing all positive info/news....and remind her how proud you are of her...all things I know you are doing...keep up the good work!
I did not get a letter from my daughter, but my mom in Michigan did. I am guessing it is due to mail getting there faster then here in Texas :( I had my mom call and read me the letter. She did not sound upbeat at all and said she is tired and hungry all the time. I know it will get better as the weeks go by and she gets closer to PIR. From the way it sounded, I really don't think she has received any of the letter I wrote and I started mailing one each day from the time I got her address. So sad rigt now :( Maybe my letter will come today!
Class up is also called Phase Up, Phase 1 they have to wear uniforms all the time and are not permitted off base. They have to be back in the barracks by a certain time each night. This phase starts when they arrive to A school. Phase 2, usually comes after a specific test depending on what A school they are in. If they have not done anything wrong by that time, usually about week 3 or 4 depending on the rate. then they can wear civies when not on duty. They can leave base with a buddy or family member but their curfew is the same as phase 1. They have to return to base every night. Phase 3 I think is at the descretion of the instructor, usually depending on their rate and after a certain amount of time. Then they have weekend liberty which they can leave base Friday after class and does not have to be back until Sunday night. They have to stay within a certain distance of the base and I an not sure if they have to check out with a buddy or family or are allowed to leave alone.
They normally get one to two weeks leave after A-school to come home before going to the next school or their first duty base. During that time at home they can work up to 5 days at the recruiters office and then those days are not counted against their leave days they have :banked: up.
