Friday Blues

Today has been hard.  My son has been in GL for a week now and not being able to speak to him, or even text him, it getting to me.  Every time my phone buzzes, I think of him.  People keep sending me emails that make me turn into a big blubber head.  You know those emails going around, intended to remind you of the true meaning of Christmas.  I can't listen to the radio anymore, because all I hear is sad stories.  Apparently my phone was buzzing in the middle of the night and I did not hear…

NEW NAVY MOM - HELP

I'm of course very new to all of this, but I would like to say that I am getting so much good information from everyones blogs.  I do have some questions though.  My first one is, what does PIR stand for.  Like I said, I'm new.  I'm doing better each day emotionally, but I still have my moments.  My son left on Monday, Dec. 13th and I'm starting to get anxious for the form letter, the date of graduation, etc.  I thought that yesterday was going to be the worst.  It was his 19th birthday. …

A Gift for our Sailor

We were at a loss of what to get our son for Christmas seeing as he's leaving for Boot on January 4th.  He can't take anything with him, so our list was limited.  We think we may have found a good idea.  I went on Oneshare.com and bought him one share to General Dynamics (Military aerospace designs, combat systems, Marine systems, etc. manufacturer) We had it framed and engraved.  No matter where he goes in life, he will always own a share in that company.  There were many to choose…

Christmas Gifts for Your Military Son/Daughter

Hard deciding what to get my son for Christmas this year since he's in the Navy now.  We all just got new phones, so was thinking of maybe a gift card of our phone carrier to use as he wishes on a bill or accessories. Otherwise it seems as though he gets alot of necessities through the Navy.  HELP!  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks!

The Box

Well the box arrived yesterday. I hesitated with opening it, but managed. I laughed because all his stuff was just tossed in - typical of him not to fold his clothes or pack neatly! As I searched for his cell phone, I came across his watch. This immediately brought tears to my eyes. They say the recruits are allowed a watch while at Basic Training. The only watch my son had, was a bit too fancy for that environment so I went out and bought him a modest watch, which was also waterproof for 50…

Hi, I was just wondering if they are allowed to take anything with them to A School such as a cell phone, laptop, their own clothes, etc. If so, do we bring that stuff with us to graduation? Thank you for your input!!

New adventures, stayng connected

Fortunately, my younger son and I are able to attend the PIR on 12-22-10. We are also very blessed to be able to visit with our sailor for a few days including Christmas. In an effort to keep the holiday bright and establish an ongoing support from home, we came up with the following plan. Being next to the youngest of a large family, my recruit has many young neices and nephews. They are very close. So my son and I are taking a paper christmas tree that can be taped to a wall, and handmade…

Weekly Carepackage for Sailor.

In an effort to remain connected to Sailor. I want to keep my heart strings from getting crossed and send him weekly "packages". I figure posting it some place weekly will help ensure my mental commitment I made to myself. (To do this for Sailor, and to do this because it means a lot to him.) Also hoping to gain more ideas of what to include on future packages. So if you have some additional ideas, Please share.:
