Only those who are grad and go and staying in Great Lakes will get to spend the nights with their families and there are no guarantees. It is awesome for those who do get to do this. And yes you can send contacts to your sailor. They only get to wear them for pictures and PIR but, it may be too late for pics. Not sure if they have already had those taken or not. We were also able to send make-up, hair dryer and hair straightener to our daughter for PIR. She was in the performing division and her RDC said it was okay for us to send that. For anything you are sending I would send it Priority mail. And...... your PIR is getting close now, anyone who wants PIR ribbons and hasn't ordered them please let me know.

I agree with Karen, My hubby is also schooling in GL; He's going to Corpsman School too and my friend's son got to spend the WHOLE weekend when he was in GL last December w/o reporting back til Monday and he was leaving to Texas on Tuesday for MP Schooling....I guess it depends if they are staying in GL or being stationed somewhere else....

The info in my last post is only for Grad & Go divisions. All others do have to return each evening by 8 or 9.
Comment by MaribethP on September 21, 2010 at 2:52pm
Thanks for the information. I read someone else's post so I was getting confused.
Comment by Leny'smom on September 21, 2010 at 2:48pm
From what I understood they have free time only during the day and have to be back at their compartments at 9pm, just got a letter from my SR who confirmed that. His A-school will more than likely be in Great Lakes as he's being trained for corpsman, but if there is an overflow, I quess then Texas comes into play and from what I understand, anything can change! Can anyone share great recipes that your taking along for homecooked meals? Boy, would I appreciate that!

Lilly~ thank you for the link. Ship10mom~ Yes, his schooling is in GL. He's going to Corpsman school. Maribeth~ It does depend on where your recruit is going for their technical school. If they are staying in GL, they have to move all their stuff and check into their school after PIR before their liberty begins and can typically spend over nights with you in your hotel, unless they have watch duty, but if they are leaving the state, I believe they have to catch flights on Sat. but you are able to meet them at the airport to see them off.

MaribethP.. Not sure where you are getting the recruits could spend the night. They will have to return to boot camp, I know my daughter will she is a G&G.
We are sharing information on letters we write and send now and when we could get another phone call from our SR.
Comment by MaribethP on September 21, 2010 at 2:34pm
Wait, I am confused. I didn't think any of the recruits could spend the night at the hotels with us - especially grad and go's. Is anyone able to clarify this for me or is it just based on where they are going? My son is heading to Connecticut for sub school and he indicated he thought he was leaving early Saturday and would not be able to spend the night with us.

Also, are we allowed to send the contacts and how did you guys find this out????

I must have missed something!!! Thanks for any information on this stuff.
