The discussion has been added - Traveling Alone to PIR.

Sobe - great idea for a discussion on travel arrangements. I will make sure there isn't one started already in our PIR group and set one up.

JanaB - No flights booked yet, I want her to wait a little longer to make sure nothing happens to delay my SR. One additional thing I would caution you about, besides traveling alone :), is that you may want a car just so you can be out and about with your SR. I have read that transportation isn't very convenient in North Chicago, especially if you want to spend time sightseeing. Maybe another option in our discussion is people meeting at the airport and driving as a group from the airport if you are worried about navigation. You wouldn't feel so alone, but would still have the freedom of your own vehicle.

Thanks for all the good info, Sobe. Still no box yet!

cbryant - there's probably nothing wrong. Not all Navy Moms/Families know about this site, or they are still learning how to navigate it and don't realize there are discussion forums above. (i hate discussions, they are hard to follow!!). I am sure you are in the right place.

Suggestion to find others quicker and make life easier on this site: Update your User ID to show your recruits division and PIR date. You can do this under settings in the upper right hand corner. You can also get rid of all the N4M emails you get too in that area (if you live on this site and check it every day, why get an email??).

Here's how my User ID looked when my son was in bc:

Sobe Div 201 PIR 6/4/10

Just a suggestion, because their may be others in your division, but you just can see it by their User name!

Suggestion for those of you traveling alone: First, don't do it! But if you can't help it, I've seen lots of PIR groups who start a discussion above titled "Traveling alone to PIR", this is a great place for you to buddy up with someone who is also traveling alone or who is driving and can pick you up at airport - or they are flying in to same airport - you get the idea!

Welcome WeCanDoThis! There are actually more men on N4M than most people realize. That's because we Moms/Wives "do it right"!! Guys give us balance, but hope you are really for an emotional ride. Think of this as a training class for being married!!!

I will be flying in from El Paso, TX. I can fly in to either airport--O'hare or Midway. I just checked the price of flights, and they are about the same. What day will she be flying in on?
Comment by NavyMomLG on August 26, 2010 at 12:57pm
JanaB - are you flying in to Chicago then? Which airport? I am driving, but my daughter is flying so I will need to make an airport run.
Comment by Judy Proud Mom on August 26, 2010 at 12:30pm
My son is ship 10 div 331 by the way, so far I have only found 1 other person with a child there and she told me her daughter was being sent home because of migraines.
Comment by Jana B on August 26, 2010 at 12:16pm
I have a question now! It looks like I will be coming up to Chicago by myself on 10/7.
I would love to share a shuttle or something with some one else for the ride to a motel. I didn't want to rent a care by myself. I've never used a GPS system, and I'm very "directionally challenged" lol.
