Hi Ladies-
My name is Jane and I am patiently waiting to receive the "I'm a sailor" call from my SR today.
If I can answer any of your questions please ask away and I will do my best!

cameowlot - I agree on on fronts! So glad that more and more PIR 10/08's are finding their way here. I can't imagine walking through this without my N4M friends!

BS-21 doesn't happen until the last 2-7 days before bc is over.

Guess what? You guys are no longer the babies of the PIR groups! We have a brand new one, PIR 10/15/10. Each week gets easier and moving up the ladder always helps us out (at least mentally)!

Sobe, thanks for sharing the vid! I can't wait to hear the stories about it from my husband.

Kim ~ Thanks for the encouraging words and you are so right. When I get to feeling very lonely and missing my son a lot I always come here and find that I am not the only one feeling this way! We have been writing to him constantly and encouraging him - sometimes that is hard when I myself need encouraging too! This group is awesome!! I know PIR for 10/8 recruits will be here before we know it!! Thanks again!

Sobe - Thanks for the awesome video of Battlestations 21!! I can't wait to hear about this from my son!

I hope you guys don't mind me jumping onto your group for a minute to give you some encouraging words....a month ago I was exactly where you are now. It seemed like PIR was forever away, but guess what...it really isn't. I have made the best friends in the world in my group, laughed with these ladies, cried with these ladies, and now am getting ready to do some major celebrating with these ladies in two very short weeks. We can see the end in sight and so can our recruits! I know some days seem harder than others, but it will all come together...trust me, please.

Below is an awesome video of Battle Stations 21 (BS-21) exercise. Everything they learn in bc prepares them for this final exercise. It's 12 hrs long, they start at 8pm and it ends at 8am - and they are not sailors until they pass it. Turn your sound ON, grap tissue, and then make note of the ball caps they were in the beginning, then the caps at the end! Enjoy.

MaribethP - not always, but sometimes. My son wrote early on that he would get to call us during xx week, but didn't know a specific day or even the time of day. They only get 3 calls, but the division can earn more (depends on RDC and how they are working together as a team). Those 3 calls are the "I'm here", the 3rd or 4th week call, and the I'm a sailor call (after Battlestations 21 exercise). Not the answer you were hoping for, but I don't want to get anyone's hopes up!

Teamwork is the name of the game ladies. Your recruits need to receive uplifting, motivational letters to help them realize that although they graduate on their own merits, they will never make it unless they support the guys/gals in their division. Think of it this way: The recruit standing next to your recruit is ultimately responsible for saving the life of your loved one - and visa versa! They are learning how to respond to emergencies - that is what Battlestations 21 exercise is all about! My son says that the shipmates he had in bc will be his shipmates for life. When they write their division number on their lid (sailor hat), that number stays there and defines them. My son noticed that one guy was not doing well on his running time and was not going to pass his final PFA. Brandon did not like this guy, but he didn't want to see anyone fail, so he volunteered to run next to this kid as a pacer - the guy not only passed, but ran it faster than even my son thought he would. They never spoke again, but would give each other this "look" whenever they passed each other at chow. This is teamwork, this is how they make it through boot camp. They don't have to like everyone, but they do love them as shipmates.

Sobe - do the recruits have any indication that they will be allowed to call? I guess what I am trying to ask is did you have any advance warning via letter that said "hey we may be able to call home on such and such date?" I guess at this point I am not expecting a call so IF I got one it would be a nice surprise!!
