Sobe, you said your son is going to A school in Norfolk. So he has 2 A schools? What is the second one for?

Hi everyone and welcome. I know you must be very excited and have a ton of questions about boot camp, PIR, lodging, grad and go, A-school and so so much more. I am here to pay it forward. My daughter joined the Navy April 16, she left for boot camp May 25, She had PIR July 23, and she is now in Pensacola for A-school and is set to graduate in Late September. We have been through a lot and have plenty of stories to share. My daughter was a grad and go and was on a chartered flight. If you have any questions at all please feel free to send me a friend request. I am happy to help in any way I can. My name is Lora, my friends call me LaLa and I am known as the Ribbon Queen. :)

judyw - the investigator was in our small little town for 2 weeks! Okay, should of added that his 3rd grade teacher is also a neighbor of ours, and they interview ALL your neighbors! They actually didn't even want to talk to our other kids - they want to talk to those who worked or schooled or were roommates with your son (anyone they associated with as of age 18 and older). My son is 21, so he had already been out of our home, spent a year at tech school, then came back. They interview all past employers too. IT's require a very high level of security clearance. After my son gets back from leave, they are sending him to A-School in Norfolk, VA for about 5 months - then he will be stationed in Italy! (so guess where I want to go on vacation!!!!)

Sobe, thanks for the info, I appreciate it. My husband is on navy dads but he keeps asking if he can see my page because mom's give way more info, lol. I yhad no clue A school was self paced. That is amazing. My son, who never was the school type, excelled in self paced classes so that is awesome news.

So how many people will they want to interview in our family? You said something about a 3rd grade teacher, that is just crazy!

judyw - and here's the link to their A-School in Pensacola. Sailors in Pensacola/Corry Station (click blue underlined words). IT's are actually at Corry Station, just a few miles down the road - it's a more "homelike" place, my son really enjoyed it. Close to the beaches too. The usually class up much quicker than other rates do (a rate is a job), and it's a self paced program. They are given 14 weeks to complete it, most do it in 8 or less. They go through a lot more security background checks too. We had a man from the Dept of Defense at our house a week after PIR and he even interviewed Brandon's 3rd grade teacher!

Sobe and Laura, thanks for the information! It's always so nice to get the 'first hand' accounts of things!

Sobe, congrats to your son on finishing A school, how exciting! Another step checked off for you!
