Thanks so much for the info. We are driving out and we planned to stay till Sunday. If they are grad and go......what do they do afterwards?

Laura - I know EXACTLY what you mean. I had a severe love/hate relationship with the BOX. I loved that it came, and was very excited. But I hated how it seemed to tear my heart. The letter will be on it's way and I promise you will SMILE from ear to ear.

So excited for everyone that is getting letters today! According to the countdown - we have just 49 days to go before we see our now recruits/then sailors. I am looking forward to all the exciting things coming our way in the next several weeks. The letters, the phone calls, especially the "I'm a Sailor!" call.

I booked the hotel room today, Residence Inn in Waukegan/Gurnee. They do have a block of rooms reserved, I just mentioned graduation when I called. Hoping it's a good choice. There were 2 main reasons for choosing it. 1) I was looking for a suite, and 2) It is near Gold's Gym, which allows guests of the hotel to workout there for free. My son loves Gold's Gym and my husband is training for the IRONMAN Florida Traithlon. Training will be a must!

I love Thursdays - that's mail day for me! My son may be out of bc, but I write to other recruits (who don't get mail) and I live for Thursdays!!! My mailman is my ex-son-in-law, but we get along and we worked it out so that I get my mail at 9:30am instead of after 2pm. He is still keeping that schedule too, I almost knocked him over with the screen door one day - I wanted that letter! I was also late to work every single Thursday for 6 weeks while my son was in bc, so I worked later those nights. There was no way I could wait til dinner to read my letter!

PK's mom- thanks for the hope...younger son just called from home and IT"S THERE!!! Jumping out of my skin now and dying to get home. Feel like a kid at Christmas time. Thanks again!

I was so happy to see my son's handwriting on the envelope for the form letter today!! when I opened it, the first thing I saw was his writing "Mother I am still among the living"! (when I took him to the recruiters office I told him I wanted to hear from him, even if all I got was something that said he was alive. my son is not one for writing anything so I said that would be enough for me. he laughed and said he would have to write that at least once.) it doesn't surprise me that that would be the first thing he would write to me; it actually made me laugh that he took my request and made it so much more formal than I would have thought he would! way more words out of him than I expected! he's in ship 10 div 334

Laura, thanks, hoping for a letter from him next week!

proudtobehismom, hope you get the letter today! It was 3 days later between box and letter for us, but I guess it all depends on where you live as to delivery times. Hey, if you have to change the hotel usually that's not a problem, but airfare is hard to change (and expensive) so we've waited to get airplane tickets, just in case...

Praying that form letter is there today. Box came on Tuesday, completed that hurdle. It;s been a week since he left...seems like yesterday, then again seems like forever. Need to see that handwriting that I know s well and can't wait to start making plans... actually have a cheated a little and already booked hotel for the weekend of the 8th. Felt so good, just hope I didn't rush it!

dans mom - the form letter won't tell you if he's a G&G or not, but they are given about three lines to write a short note. My son told us how much he wanted us to come to graduation, how much he missed & loved us. We got our first real letter two days later, he said "I think I'm a grad & go". But that did not stop us from coming. Turns out, he was a G&G and I loved being able to give him his cell phone, laptop and ipod at the airport. We spent all day Friday with him, then met him at the airport early the next morning until his flight left at 1pm. We saw Chicago that afternoon and he was texting us during his layover and called us when he arrived in Pensacola that night. Sleeping in on Sunday was such a blessing - we had been up early on Thurs to fly from Calif to Chicago, then up early for PIR, then up early to meet him at airport - so we liked the fact that seasoned moms had suggested we don't fly home until Sunday afternoon.

Hint - some recruits don't know if they are G&G until a few weeks before, others know right away - but they are often told the bus leaves RTC at 2am, then it changes to a later time as PIR arrives. There were parents of graduates this past Friday who made plans to fly home on Saturday - then they found out their son didn't even fly out til after 5pm on Saturday - they had to leave before he did! If you are able to go to PIR, be kind to yourself and your recruit and stay until Sunday no matter what!
