Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

They must be delaying all spec ops one extra week; I noticed there's an 821 graduating on 10/1 and they must have started more than a week ago. I'm glad we got the columbus day weekend, but that does mean one more week of BC for our recruits!

Thomas/Adam's mom, hang in there! Did you find out his ship/div and PIR date?

Comment by SOBE,PIR 6/4/10 IT Mom, Italy on August 16, 2010 at 8:53pm: Thomas & Adam's mom: Ask your ex to fax it to you, or scan it and email it. You want to be sure your name is listed on your son's guest list for PIR, AND you will need to know the password for the gate/parking pass. You would not believe how many people misplace, lose or even throw away that form letter, not realizing they need it later. I don't know anything about your ex, however, I am going to assume he is a man (a typical man) and he may toss it before you ever see it!

Comment by SOBE,PIR 6/4/10 IT Mom, Italy on August 16, 2010 at 8:29pm: Security Clearance calls: Some recruits are instructed to call home to ask you for addresses, phone numbers, etc. during their first week or two. The Navy needs your recruit to get this info so the Navy can complete the security clearance needed to enter A-School after boot camp graduation. Not all recruits will be calling home for this info. The recruiters back at home do a good job, but the Navy needs more! Your recruit will be calling on the Navy's dime and the area code will be "847" but it won't say "pay phone" like normal calls home will. Some Moms will wish that their kid would call for more info just to hear their voice! USUALLY, "No news is Good news", so not hearing from your recruit is considered a good thing, but please remember not to get worried if you get one of those calls requesting info for security purposes.

Comment by PKMom on August 16, 2010 at 6:04pm: It WAS so nice to see his handwriting (neat on the envelope and the official parts of the letter, typical scrawl in the bottom saying that he loves us, misses us and it's tough but he's doing well and don't worry. :-)

OhioNavyMa- congrats on getting the box, the letter is a few days away (or less!)

I can relate to your reaction and your conversation with the driver. Mine was much the same. We don't have a dog, but our cat has been impossible! It cries constantly as it sits in our recruits doorway.

Comment by SOBE,PIR 6/4/10 IT Mom, Italy on August 16, 2010 at 3:52pm: Hi ladies (and gents if any). I see some of you have received your kid in a box, that's a tough one. My son was in bootcamp for 8+ weeks, had his flight not been late, he would of graduated a week earlier! This will seem like the longest 8 weeks of your life, but there really is a light at the end of the tunnel! They need lots of motivational letters, tidbits from home, and any photo's you can spare. Just don't send care packages!!! Not allowed.

I started a discussion above about Grad & Go's as this is a topic that families have a lot of questions about. The direct link to that group is in the discussion. But my advice is: If you can afford it, go to PIR no matter what! It truly is worth it. My son told us not to come because he was a G&G, but I knew he really wanted us there and when we told him we were going regardless of how little time we would have with him, his letters really perked up and he was excited!

Comment by OhioNavyMama on August 16, 2010 at 3:39pm: yea it was THE BOX :'( i was bawling before i made it outside to greet the driver. i told him i was sorry and he said "its ok..i know what this is and your not the only one". even my poor dog was sniffing and crying. didn't get any surprise notes though :/
