mreed - "This too will pass"...and....come back again...the roller coaster ride of Boot Camp!
The first three weeks are tough and your first letter home may be very sad with your recruit being homesick. They are up for the first 48 hours when they first arrive at BC. The first week is "P" days...in processing...and it is mentally tiring...PT Physical Training does not begin until Week 1 Day 1. Then the physical is added on (I am assuming that this is because the recruit must be declared FFD=Fit For Duty physically).
Write lots of encouraging letters! If you don't have your form letter yet confirming the address...write anyways and have them ready to go for when you do.
eliza383 - Have you received your box yet...I am assuming you got your address from the recruiter?
Here is the format for addressing mail...as sometimes info from the recruiter has TMI or not enough.
SR, Last Name, First Name, Middle initial
Ship ##, Divison ###
Recruit Training Command
#### Something Drive or Avenue
Great Lakes ILL 60088-####
You do not have to have the Recruit Training Command though that may be how your recruit will write it on the form letter. SR=Seaman Recruit, their title in BC though they will probably just be called "Recruit".
Thanks! I was so glad to at least get an address!
Welcome, mreed!
eliza: It's possible...either this group or the next PIR group (which isn't started yet.) The last PIR group (2/03) ended with Div 60, so if this is a larger PIR group, it is very possible that you are in the right place. Hopefully they will have the division numbers posted on Monday on the RTC site and you will know for sure. Stay here until then!
If my SR is ship 03 div 071 is he PIR 2/10 ?
Hello everyone, glad to see this group is up and running. Got the PIR letter yesterday, my daughter wrote on the back. She said she is miserable but ok. Makes me sad, even though I knew this wouldn't be easy for her. I am very new to this whole military thing, so am very thankful for N4M and all of you.
Hey! Thanks for starting the group, NJBlasian! I'm another N4Moms veteran, like FTLW, here to help!
Thank you NJBlasian for starting the Group!
Hello!
FireTeamLeaderWife here!
My Sailor PIR’d on 05/26/2011.
So I am a “junior vet”, (don’t know how much longer I can claim that – only when I mess up, huh!) as I have only been on the site for about six months since our son’s PIR. Okay...I not allowed "claim" this anymore...but will change it later LOL!
I will check in here once and awhile to see if I can answer any questions and lend some support. There will be a few other veteran moms along to lend a hand and support you all through your PIR experience. diannep, LaLa Ribbon Queen, Betsy, momofPensacolesailor, Sandy’s Sailor son, and possibly JessicaBSailormom. We have a few others that help out when we have SPECOPS in the groups, sjtina and skyler to name a couple. Others drop in occasionally too…plus we are always looking for more to “join the ranks”. Things change in the military and we like to give out the most current info that we can so moms that have just gone through this help a lot.
I’ll also be loading up the discussion Forum area with lots of info to help you along during your PIR experience. Please feel free to add your own discussions and start your divisional discussions.
