I have hit a new emotional level. I was doing so well, but now that it is getting so close, I am missing her more and more and am feeling so much excitement, pride and anticipation. All that mixed together has put me back to the same place I was the first two weeks she left. Crying, no sleep ect. Oh the life of a Navymom. :)
I plan on getting to the airport as soon as she does, I don't care how early it is.
I think you are correct, gcnavymom, it is going to be a long 10 days, but thank God it is finally going to the single digits tomorrow. We can do this!!
I missed the visit at the airport as well. I was there looking for her and then found out that because they were leaving on a chartered flight we would not get to see her. What an emotional day that was. Glad they don't do those very often.
I was such a newbie when my son PIRed that I didn't know about the airport visits so missed that :-( (they don't tell them this at RTC...in fact, some are told that they cannot see families at the airport...I guess they figure no one will get up that early!). Some meet up with their sailors in the USO, like Lala said. But remember...the Midway airport USO is past security, so your sailor would need to meet you before security.
Thanks so much for the information! You ladies are the best!
yes Hope, it depends on which airport they are at on how it works though. If they are at Ohare they can meet you at the USO, it is located before the gate. Then you can spend as much time as they have with them before their flight. That can be anywhere from an hour up to several hours depending on what time their flight is. When they say they leave at 2 am that usually means to get to the airport. Most flights don't start until around 6am or later. If the Sailor is at a different airport then they will have to meet you at the gate and they will let you have a pass so that you can wait with them for their flight. Just have everyone with you that is going to wait with them. There may be a limit on how many can wait if you have a very large group but I am not sure about that. They won't normally know their flight time and all that info until the day before or morning of PIR so they will have to tell you there. If they are on a chartered flight they will not get to meet you in the airport because they go straight from the base to the jet and don't come into the airport at all. But try not to worry about that. They don't do that very often at all. :-)
What is the procedure for waiting with your Sailor at the airport when they are leaving for A school? Do you get to wait with them at the gate?
Lots use it for all military that are away from home. I couldn't find a Blue battery operated one at the time...so I took blue paper and covered a white one I have. I keep it "burning " all the time!
That you for the info, Diane, really helps! :)
most of the moms/wives etc burn a blue candle while their recruit is going through battlestations. It is a tradition to burn a blue candle while Sailor are deployed as well. Just be careful and don't leave one burning all night. We don't want any fires. For that reason many of the moms get the battery or plug in kind :-)
