Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Comment by mhseimears ship 7 division 63 on January 12, 2012 at 11:18pm: my son mentioned it in his letters too...the slashes thru the zeros thing but he also said that their division is having a hard time working as a team so maybe that has something to do with it...

Comment by zStratMom on January 12, 2012 at 10:44pm: Remember - the RDCs mess with the SR's minds with the little things. Also, they may tell recruits to use slashes early on to ensure people can read their writing.

Comment by zStratMom on January 12, 2012 at 10:41pm: Ladies - there is NO federal or military requirement to differentiate the capital O from a zero with a null sign (zero with a slash). Don't worry about this. Son1's BC mail went back and forth just fine, and son2's BC mail is arriving sans slashes. YOU are GOOD to go!

I have been writing my friend over the past 2 weeks, about 10 letters, and NEVER knew a thing about slashing the zeros!! I just read that if you don't slash the zeros, they will withhold the mail. Withhold it til when???? And where will it go. Now I'm thinking she hasn't gotten one of my letters. I am seriously losing it. I want to cry so bad!!
