Fairer Winds Blowing

It is amazing how wonderful this site is for all of us. No matter where I am in the thick of things, someone always has kind words and thoughts of encouragement. And, through our own experiences, we are able to pass on that same empathy and kindness.

What struck me today was that as we pass on what we have gathered along the way, we get to stop and catch our breath for just a moment to reflect how things were "then" and how we are now. Often those reflections are astounding. Not only… Continue

Day 3

I thought I would be more of a wreck than I am...I have been busy so maybe just haven't had the time to obsess. My husband had a "moment" when he went downstairs to empty the dehumidifier, that was always our son's job and it caught him off guard. It's kinda crazy how much laundry he left behind though :)

Battle station 21

Can anyone tell me if the recruits are individually reviewed during battle station 21 or does their success or failure of this depend on the entire group as a whole (i.e. if some of them mess up, it affects them all)?

Homesick (Navy girl)

My Navy girl, my daughter called the other day very home sick crying. We have not seen her for almost a year. I decided that it would be a lot easier if I came up with something creative.

I bought a couple of watches and I decided to syncronize them to beep every 5 hours. I send her a note saying that every time her watch goes off, mine will go off at the same time. I told her to close her eyes, at that very momment my eyes will be closing too. I…

10 Days left

My son is leaving in 10 days. I will miss him so much. Did I teach him everthing I know about life? I am wondering"did I raise him well enough so that he can handle something like this?"

HELP! New Navy Mom in Town, Norfolk

Hello Navy Moms and wives

My daughter will be moving to Norfolk tomorrow 9/23/10. She doesn't know anyone in the Norfolk area. Her husband will not be arriving for another month. I am worried about her and my 18 month grandson. If any of you can come to the rescue and give her a warm Navy welcome that would be greatly appreciated. Please send me a message so I can let her know. Thank you in advance.

Ship 02 Div 949 PIR 10/29/10

We sent our twin girls off to BC 08/23/10. We would like to hear from others in the same Division or same PIR date. Their BC is 9 1/2 weeks instead of the normal 8 1/2 weeks and was wondering if anyone knew why. Also, when they called home the night they got to BC they said they would be calling 3-4 week, it is 4 weeks today and we still have received no call. We have received a couple letters from them and they sound really good. We also have sent many letters to them. We are so… Continue

Robbed on Deployment

I got an e-mail from my son who is own deployment telling me that someone ran up $5000. dollars in medical expenses on his credit card. So he was stressing out trying to figure out how to deal with it. It would be simple and much faster resolution provided he could use a phone but I think he has to try and figure it out online. Has anyone else had to deal with anything like this I could use some advice to pass on to my son, but I am hoping that by the time I hear from him again he will have it… Continue

Training finally over...

My fiancee has been in the military for about 6 years and was recently given an assignment to go and work out in Kuwait for a year as an MA (Master of Arms). It was very shocking because he was basically "voluntold" to go and we had to drop all of our plans such as getting married in a year or so and instead get ready for him to leave for a 2 month training in Fort Dix,NJ. I was very excited for him and definitely tried to make the best out of it because it was something new to add to his navy… Continue

No longer waiting...

Well, he's there. Got the call at 7:26 pm last night. He sounded exhausted. I'm so excited for him. Letting him go was hard but I had been processing the separation for about 2 weeks so I was able to keep it together pretty well. Saw more of him in the week before he left than I usually do in a normal month. God be with him, that next phone call feels very far away.

So Excited!!!!!

Well I got the 2nd phone call today, she is doing great, she is loving every minute of bootcamp. She is a little nervous for Friday it is the gas chamber she is afraid she is going to pass out, I told her that she will be just fine. Get to see her in 17 days, then she leaves for A School in Pensacola then she comes home for 2 weeks then she gets her orders, of course her 1st choice is San Diego, which is like 3000 miles away from home, I was hoping for Baltimore MD only about 2 1/2hrs... But…

Party Ideas

My son is off to BC Nov 16th. He will be missing some special occations. I am looking for some great (inexpensive) party ideas. I was thinking about incorporating Thanksgiving, Christimas and his 18th Birthday so that he will not feel he has missed any of these important dates. I am gathering all his family and closest friends to celebrate. Any ideas such as invites, decorations music, games, etc. that are related to any of the holidays and to the navy would be greatly appreciated......I am… Continue

The box

We received the box yesterday. As you say it was pretty bad. It had a address inside. His girlfried is saying that's his address. I thought the address came much latter. Today is only 1 week from him leaving. I think that's not his real address. Am I correct?

From Navy Wife to Navy Mom!

What a great site. I wish there had been something like this when my husband joined the navy. I received my son's "box" and cried of course. Today I received the form letter and really cried. He's the first child to leave the home and this is really hard. Because of what I read on this site I went out and bought stamps and a phone card. It's all going in the mail tomorrow. Ship 07 Div 362 PIR 11/5...I hope wrote that correctly. Anybody else with a child in the same division?

Handle With Care

Hello All,

I'm still a little green as a new Navy Mom.
My son Lynch's PIR was 8/13/2010. He is now in Pensacola for Air Crew - NACCS is currently occupying his time. I was so excited to hear that he passed his final swim test thus far...the swim in his flight suit. I still can't wrap my head around all he has to do for his chosen career path in the US Navy. Part of me in in awe of him and so proud that he didn't take an easy way. The other half of me is worried…

Yay for First Contact.

I'm nervously excited! I've written to my adopted bebes and though I know they are in no way obligated to write back, there's a childish delight at the notion that I may be getting a letter in the mail in the next few weeks. During my break at work today, I worked on ideas for my first care packages to my Sailors. I'm still brainstormin', but I'm going to have to decide soon enough, as I'd like to get something in the mail during October. I have an idea about doing a "Day in the life of..."…
