Ladies, I was MIA yesterday.  My son called me and told me that he was given his first verbal Orders.  They will become written Orders once he has been checked out of medical and dental.  He will be going to the CVN 74 John C. Stennis, out of  Bremerton, Washington.   I am kinda feeling numb about this, as it has now become a reality.

rivermom,  Once your sailor is in A school they will go through a process of phasing up to earn privileges.  At the 6 week point of A school, many sailors have phased up to the final Phase, which is Phase III.  This phase does allow recruits the opportunity to leave base, drive a car and wear civilian clothes.  I do know of a sailor who was able to attend a sibling's wedding while in A school, but the wedding did take place within 250 miles of their base.  I do believe that most sailors are normally only allowed to travel that distance while still in A school.  I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that traveling out of the country would most likely be prohibited while still in training.

have any of these storms been known to completely close down the airports or cause such severe delays that families have missed PIR?  That would be devestating to be stuck at an airport.

Here is an offbeat question--hoping someone may have an answer:

Does the Navy allow sailors (after graduation/boot camp of course) any liberty for attending a wedding in the immediate family--a sibling?  At this point I think my SR would be in A school only about six weeks.  Would there be any consideration for international travel if the wedding is out of the country?

Pray for PIR 1/20.  There is a severe snowstorm arriving in Chicago area in the morning and expected to not let up until Sat. morning.  PRAY HARD!  They could have a rough day after PIR.  Could get up to 6 inches of snow.

I live about 90 minutes from GL and it is really cold today and we are supposed to get slammed with snow tomorrow....I sure hope the boys aren't shoveling if they are all sick!

Can you believe it?  Only 21 more days, wow!  I hope to get a letter today. Been receiving them on Thursdays so hope that continues.  This cold weather is going to be a big change for us and a big shock to our system when my kids and I get to PIR. We are from AZ and own nothing more than a light sweater.  It has been in the 70's here lately.  Been asking around to borrow warm clothes, no sense in buying them. :)Regardless, I can not wait til the 10th!!!

They do have hand sanitizer all around that they are to use.  But....still....

Yea, my husband has had a sinus infection/cold most of the time, too.. He sounded terrible when he got to call earlier this past week.

I kind of figured that was the case - they are all in such tight quarters!  They had their 2nd PT test Friday too - and he sounded so miserably stuffed up on Wednesday I hope they all did ok.  Feel better FTLW
