Well I say good for them. None of them should be untruthful. And I can tell you if I lived there I would probably start a shuttle service lol. Someone could do very well with that up there.

Comment by Arwen on January 2, 2012 at 10:10pm

diannep, when I was at Navy Lodge they did the $3 pp fee, with a minimum of 4-5 passengers (depending on the capacity of the taxi, most of which are mini-vans). This isn't really a special rate, they offer it at all tiems for anyone who travels to RTC by taxi.

The reason they say they don't offer a "shuttle" is because they don't have an official shuttle service. They define a shuttle as a bus or van on a shuttle schedule, and they refuse to call the area taxis "shuttles." I had a long discussion about the concept with the assistant manager one night when I couldn't sleep.

Basically, the idea is that the other hotels are not being truthful when they call the area taxis, "shuttles" and the Navy Lodge, being controlled by the Navy, refuses to advertise untruthfully.

For Ship 11 Division 062 we have decided on purple as our color. (unless someone disagrees) :)

For any New members (Welcome to all!) and just a reminder...this will be posted for the first few weeks of Boot Camp.

Community Guidelines and OPSEC

Hello Everyone.

Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!

Sailors LAST names are NOT allowed anywhere on this site. If your last name is different from your sailors it is still not recommended.

FIRST names ARE allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. This is a public forum and anyone can read the posts-they do not have to be a member (if the group is set to private, the public cannot read but all N4M members can-so all you have to do is join) While they use their last names in BC (in fact they don't usually, if ever, find out each other’s first names until the end of BC), the RDC's know who they are and can then, with the right amount of info, link them up to you. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...easy to match up...and so on.

Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. There have been reports from moms of their recruits being matched up with them. Some are just identified…some get IT (Intensive Training), I am guessing this depends on WHAT is posted…I know of one mom who said that her son had to do 5 push-ups just for every time she posted!

The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-Operational Security. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance. Some moms have mentioned that even today after years they do not know EXACTLY what their sailor does.

SPECOPS...definitely need to be VERY careful.

Thank You.

Arwen:  Lala stayed at the Navy Lodge and said there was no shuttle service.  Yes, they can call a taxi for you, but will that taxi still operate for the $3/pp each way shuttle fee or are they charging regular taxi fees?  We have not heard from anyone else on here that Navy Lodge has the shuttle service---in fact, just the opposite.  I think the best thing to do is for those wanting to stay there to ask the Navy Lodge personnel what the taxi fare to RTC would be when they book their reservation.  Being only a mile or so away, maybe it isn't too much.  For those using Sarge's transportation services for the weekend, PIR transportation is included.  Here's his number again if you want more info about his services:

847-212-0246   You can call or text him.  He is very helpful.

Ladies, the "shuttle service" is taxis that operate as shuttles on PIR day...flat fee of $3/pp each way.  We were in a minivan taxi...not sure if all are minivans.  Be sure to ask your hotel if they use the PIR shuttle service.  Ramada has its own shuttle.

The advantage of taking the shuttle?  You bypass the long line of cars that Arwen mentioned.  After PIR, the shuttles wait in the front gate parking lot to take you back.  We had no problems getting the 6:30 shuttle from Residence (signed up for that one when checking in).  We picked up a return shuttle in the parking lot, and were the only 3 on that shuttle.  Worked out great.  But others prefer driving and have no issues.  Just make sure that you are in that car line early...and maybe take your breakfast with you to eat in the car while you wait.

Good Morning!
